This procedure is all over our forum (and other forums).
It does work as I use it occasionally (like yesterday).
Posting and making a sticky for new members.

What it does? in a nutshell, it resets the ECU/TCU's learned detection of throttle inputs, effectively re-establishing the 0% and 100% pedal travel positions. , ie. quick rabbit starts as opposed to slow takeoffs. it gets used to how you drive.

R171:
If you want instant throttle response, you can have it for free.
With the engine off, turn the key to position 2 (don't start it.)
Press the throttle pedal all the way to the floor past the kick down click.
Hold it down for about 30 seconds.
Take your foot off the pedal and take the key out.
Wait 5 seconds, and start the car.
I bet you notice the change in response immediately.

For r170:
From Livefreeordie:Works for the R170's also. The only difference is keep pedal to the floor then remove the key.

R172: should work based on users, follow R171 steps.

The threads mention the 55 and his 99 c280. others will chime in if they had it work. It worked on my previous 05 slk 350

I had a 2004 Dodge Ram pick-up truck that this also worked with. Seeing as how Daimler owned Chrysler for a bit and the Ram had a Mercedes transmission the option to reset the adaptive tranny would be similar if not the same. I will try it this morning when I go in to the office and let you know if I notice a difference

Adaptive Tranny reset

Hello,

I performed the tranny reset, as described n this forum, 2 days ago. I noticed some improvement with firmer up shifting and quicker firmer downshifting. The most noticeable change is when I manually select the first gear and let the car shift itself up through the range.

I would like to know if others are willing to try this and post their results here.

I wonder if we take it to the dealer for a service and tell them to check the ECU and perhaps flash it, if we wouldnt be able to squeak a little more from the car? Would the dealer be able to do it or would they only be able to use factory flash?

Why does the 'adaptive learning' need to be re-set? What would have upset it? As most critics have observed the Merc. auto box IS slow & very last century ( my '13 auto sequential Audi was MUCH better)

as far as i have observed, things like stop and go traffic jams. someone else driving your car and it learning that person's behavior.

others will chime in. I reset it about every 6 months just because

I assume different driving styles, winter to summer, will probably have an effect. I'll try this out with Mabel when I get home.

I'm confused (nothing new there). I thought consensus was reached that the soft reset only worked on 5g transmissions and only a long battery disconnect worked on 7g?

There's so much mystery regarding the workings of adaptive trannys. Why the hell can't Mercedes make all the parameters clear??
