I just bought myself my first mercedes "1998 slk230 kompressor" and love it. I'm currently having an issue. I tried a bunch of searches and found sort of the same issue, except mine's a lil different. I can't seem to lock or un-lock the doors with the remote. The light on the remote turns on and the car lights flash like their suppose to, but the locks don't budge. I checked the fuses and everything seems fine, and the car battery is fine. The car runs like a champ. The retractable hardtop works, power windows work, all lights, everything except the door locks.

Thx in advance.

Welcome from NE England. How about filling out your details (via USER CP) before Jeff Banks comes looking for you!!

The locks on the R70 are powered by a vacuum pump. Do a search on the forum for PSE Pump, and it should come up with something to point you in the right direction.

The pump lives inside the boot/trunk area on the RHS low down behind the trim panels, and the area subject to water ingress and subsequent damage to the pump..

Can you lock, or unlock the doors & trunk with the switch on the console?
No, i cannot, the switch on the dash doesn't work either. Also, the manual key lock on the door doesn't work. As for opening the trunk from inside. I haven't found were the switch is, i figured u can only open it by pushing the key lock button on the trunk.

i did some research on the pump, and it seems like that could be the issue, since i'm having the same symptoms as some people, like the dome light not coming on when the doors are open, dome light does work when i put the switch to on. Some people said that the horn would barely sound, i can hear my horn perfectly. I took a look at the pump and everything looks dry, there's just a little dust on it. I also see some people say to disconnect the battery for a minute and that might clear things up, i haven't tried that yet, but i'm not sure if that'll help since the battery was changed just before i bought the car.

Anyone have any idea what else it could be? Is it safe to reset the battery, or will it need programming from the dealer if the battery is disconnected? I would like to fix this as quickly as possible since i would like to be able to lock the car, i don't like leaving the door unlocked. i managed to manually lock the passenger door and trunk, but i can't lock the driver door.
