Hi All, just joined the forum and tried the search but cant find any results on this so appologies if its already covered.

We have a 99 230K SLK designo (my wifes car), we have recently had snow here and the car had been snowed in on the drive and hadnt moved for 5 days in temps of -6 ish, when we dug it out the doors unlocked fine and indicators flashed, alarm disarmed ect, went for a short drive and on locking the remote would not work, changed the batteries with no difference, (noticed a short flash of the battery check led in the key when a button was pressed) the CL dash switch works fine (locking and unlocking everything) as does the auto locks when driving but when i lock the drivers door with the key it wont lock the other locks?

does anyone have any suggestions? or is there a fuse for the remote locking? (im assuming the alarm gets its arm/disarm signal from the remote locking?

Many Thanks, Mark

mmmm just goes to show you should never jump to conclusions!
it appears the car's reciever is fine, i found the spare funk card key and it operates the remote locking fine so it must be a faulty key/transmitter, i noticed the battery check light flickers as i press the buttons but when i hold the button to do the batt check it doesnt light? changed the batts 3 times and swapped the ones out the funk card (which shows a good bat check) and it still shows no batt check on the normal key? tried the re sync proceedure with no effect so i'm thinking ive got a faulty one?
im about to pick a replacment up from ebay, can anyone tell me what i will need to do to pair it to the car? (is it just the re sync proceedure or is there an immobiliser chip inside that needs to be paired by the MB Dealer?)

Cheers
Mark

Hey Mark - I know for a fact that a paired key cannot be re-paired on the R171's. I suspect but don't know for a fact that the same is true for the R170 - I'd say be really cautions of a non-dealer provided key...

Have you re-synch the key fob you changed the battery in? The procedure is in the owners manual (don't have it in front of me). I think you turn the key to pos #2, wait a few seconds, turn it back off and then try a full start. I know I had to do this when I changed my battery in the fob to my C203K.

Thanks this worked with my R171 slk350.

Have tried these resolutions - Remote Still Dead

I have tried these resolutions, but still no remote. Yes, using the key, all systems work along with all inside button operations. Basically, I see no red light that indicates good battery, but the batteries have been replaced, check with meter to be 3v, installed correctly, but nothing. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

This is from the owners manual;
To synchronize system,
aim transmitter eye at vehicle and briefly press either transmit button twice. Within approximately 30 seconds insert key in steering lock and turn it to position 2.

Dead Remote

I think the real problem is the remote does not blink a red light at all. I have confirmed the batteries are good, bought new ones, installed correctly, but no red light to confirm the batteries are good, as described in the manual for the Resync function. It's as if the remote just died. However, it worked fine during the test drives and drives home. Just freaking weird. The Stealership wants $300.00.

Hi all,
At the time of buying my slk 200the dealer said, because the previous owner had not driven it much,
the key needed to be in the ignition often to maintain the battery.
He said he would send it off to be sorted at a cost of £200 to himself.
On picking up the car the dealer said it only needed new batteries. The central locking did work
but only when you touched the roof with the key. Since then I have been out of action recovering
from a broken neck. Now the key won't work the central locking.
I have tried resynching the key as suggested above.
The locking is working from inside the car and the little red light flashes on the key.
So I guess my questions are, does the key need to be regularly in the ignition to keep it working,
and with new batteries can I expect the key to only work when touching the roof.
Cheers.

I paid £201 for a new kew today Lots of people said they could code me a new one (they tried, they failed) but as I have only one key I wasn't going to wait weeks for them to keep trying.I have had a key cut but the chip it seems cannot be copied.

Cutting wasnt the problem I have one now with a chip that will do everything but start the engine. It will even shut off the alarm and light up the dashboard but will not turn off the immobiliser:smile:.
