I need a new alternator. Anyone have recommendations for where to purchase online? Anyone purchased a new or remanufactured alternator off ebay for a 1999 slk230? Is there another site or supplier someone could recommend?

Thanks

Often all an alternator needs is a new voltage regulator. Do you know what is wrong with yours? Are the bearings still good?

I was able to find this: Top Quality VR B201H Bosch Alternator Voltage Regulator 1197311242 1197311533 | eBay

It should be confirmed that your alternator is MB #003 154 06 06. If so, this should be the correct replacement VR. If you find your alternator is a different part number (if it is the original alternator the MB part number and if not then there will always be a Bosch part number) then supply me with that number and I will see what I can find on the cross reference to Bosch.

Specifically, to your comment about availability - I agree that it can take a bit more to find serviceable parts than it used to take. People have gotten lazy and sellers sell what people want. In this type of situation, if you can't find what you need for an alternator or starter or such, then you can always approach a rebuilder as they have a source for the parts.

I tried the regulator replacement, fixed it for all of three weeks, was obviously an underlying issue, ended up replacing alternator with one off ebay for £145, 6 months later still going well so assuming it is ok.... just do your usual ebay checks on the seller before jumping in.

Id be cautious of buying a alternator / starter motor of e:bay
One or two failures straight after fitting .

Buy direct at least you know that shop will still be there 11 months later etc .
