hey super SLK team
i have an slk MY09 slk 350
i am about to replace my rear shockers ,

my question is:
how do you get to the top nut assembly to remove the shock ?
do i need to remove all the trim on the inside if the boot
OR
do i cut a small hole where the shocker mounts should be

if anyone has had experience in doing so or has found a thread to read, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share your knowledge

On R170 there is a removable square plastic trim right on top of the bolt for the shock absorber for easy access =) I assume R171 should have smth similar.

There are actually pre-perforated areas on the carpet on each side in the trunk where a little access hole can be cut, and then folded back when the job is done. But yeah, probably better to just remove the carpet entirely. It's all held together with expansion clips, and some torx screws.

Why do you think the shocks need to be replaced on a four year old car?

many thanks guys i appreciate the help

so trim will come off and will check for the pre-perforated areas as i may need constant access to the top of the shocker....

so you ask why change shocks??? only 4 years old ... because i am fitting the KW Variant #3 suspension kit and will do some of the work myself .. will post photos up of my completed project soon...
