hi ! i found some really great SLKs and i feel a little "held up" on the warranty issue. I am not willing to have a car like this without a warranty and if i bring a car to the dealer that is not certified , they want a lot of money for the extended Mercedes warranty for one or two years. Has anyone had a good experience with 3rd party warranties which are much more reasonable ? This is one of the things that keeps pushing me to BMW as the warranty is very good over there.

thanks,
Glenn

p.s. what is the deal with bluetooth and Mercedes ? The dealer tells me Mercedes was slow to catch up with the market and bluetooth was not really pratical from factory until 2007. Is that correct ?

I had a $75,000 2007 BMW X5 4.8i and it had 6 recalls in just 9 months. I was also concerned that the first oil change was scheduled at 14,000 miles - YES 14k miles!! I sold it within a year, who needs the headache after spending $75k on a vehicle. Not to mention the first come-first served issue for loaners.
The only problem I have had in 6 months in the SLK is a popping noise from the roof when taking high speed turns.
So the BMW warranty will be needed, because it is a BMW imho. That was my second and last BMW.
Best of luck on your decision.

if were just comparing warranties, BMW's is much better than Mercedes. You don't have to pay for oil changes which cost about $100 bucks for a Benz, you don't have to pay for break pads depending on what model you have anywhere from $250 to $400 for a Benz. I dont know if this is true anywhere else in the world but in the US all Mercedes vehicles sold before 2005 never had to pay a cent for anything other than the break pads. which means All sercive A,B,E were all free....if only it were like that today!:tu:

RE Bluetooth...i don't know what he means by 'not practical'. Although it isn't as fancy as some of the other car makers, it definitely works well. I'm guessing it's an option you requested and the dealer either doesn't have it in stock, or doesn't know how to install it?

BMW has the same warranty as MB. For a certified warranty you have to buy the car from the dealer, that is the same at BMW and MB.

BMW adds free scheduled maintenance for 4 years and has optional extended maintenance plans as well. For some that makes a difference. I never liked the service from any the BMW dealers I went to when I owned a 3 series.

The BT in my 2005 works very well. In fact it works better than the current 2009 MB C class and my clients 2008 Acura TL. The phone book from my iPhone 3g downloads and displays on the comand screen, where on the newer cars, it doesn't appear to do that.

thanks guys and i agree and you would think the warranty on any car in this price range would be stellar. Regarding blue tooth it is confusing because the SLK has all the phone buttons on the dash but i am told that is analog and can't be used. I was told by the dealer that you have to get to 2007 slk for the bluetooth to be comparible and usuable like other cars i.e. like BMW or Lexus. On this site a "puck" is mentioned and when i asked the MB dealer about that they spun in circles and told me you need to buy 2007 or above but i am looking at 2005 or 2006. Basically i want a bullet proof warranty and trying to find out if i can achieve that on a 3rd party or does it have to be certified with MB warranty ?
