Hi from an equally rainy North Cornwall.
Even in the rain - provided the dreaded sea mist isn't obscuring the view - check out the B3306 from St Ives to St Just. It has the reputation as one of the South West's better drives.
Let me know if you find any other good routes - we could be collecting ideas for a SW Meet?

DaveR.
P.S. I'm in Chester at the weekend - a short trip to run in (?!) my new 200 AMG collected last Friday. Anything I shouldn't miss?

Depends on your interests.

We can always meet for a coffee break on Sunday, if you fancy.

If you get the weather, a run to Fort Perch on New Brighton sea front will get you some photos with a great background.

If you're doing the tourist thing a walk around the city walls is a must and it's free.
The amphitheatre is worth a look (you'll see it from a walls walk).

If the weather is grotty a walk in the rows (covered and free) is pleasant.

The Groves down by the river is a nice spot for an ice cream or cuppa. Parking can be an issue though.

Try to plan your route off the M5 from J22 take the A466 to Chepstow then head for Monmouth / Hereford / Leominster taking the A49 to A5 then turn left for Oswestry approaching Chester via Wrexham on the A483. Where are you staying?

What started as a casual greeting from North Cornwall to a fellow member presumably on holiday in South Cornwall, this small thread has demonstrated what a friendly and useful forum SLKworld really is. Neither of those adjectives, however, do it full justice.

Not only is it packed with invaluable auto-related comment, advice and guides, it also provides travel/tourism tips!

Many thanks 'Avel Du' for your suggestions regarding Chester and to 'Chrissy Lander' for the route planning. Without getting too personal on the open forum (not sure if it is of interest or relevant to other members), we (me and my wife) would be honoured to meet up for a coffee or similar on Sunday morning. We're meeting some old friends over the weekend and staying in Premier Inns (cheap, but reliable for brief over-nights) in Wrexham on Saturday and in Chester for Sunday and Monday.

As I'm new to the Forum and not sure how, or if, I can send/receive PM's, and know very little about Cheshire and the Wirral, we would happily bow to your suggestions if you are still up for a free coffee (on me).

You'll need at least 15 posts before you can send PMs to anyone other than moderators... you're almost there, so you could go and welcome a few other new members in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section to get to 15 posts more quickly.

Otherwise, I'm sure that Myk ( @Avel Du ) will be along shortly to respond about a possible meet up for a coffee... :tu:

Hi @DaveR.

We'd be happy to meet up for a coffee on Sunday morning.

As you're in Wrexham, I'll have a think (and check some opening times) for a spot that side of Chester.

Any time in particular best for you?

@Bluebadger (Boss lady) will probably join us.

I'll PM you my email address (you can still receive PMs as long as you have room in your mailbox).

Once you have 15 posts you become fully PM active, but with a small limit on numbers.

You can always welcome folk who have joined just before you. It all counts.

We trust you enjoyed your visit the Chester & surrounding areas, as most places if the weather is good you'll always have a smile.
Cornwall is always good for us well Chris is a Falmouth girl so we have the advantage of her local knowledge, we have another to struggle through yet so pleanty of time for a return visit to The Gurnard on the St Just road for dinner. Yummy. R)
