R171 300 door 'projector' lights

Hi all,
I've bought some 'LED projector lights' from evil bay for my 2010 R171 300, they are meant to project a merc star on the floor when I open the door.
When I look at the bottom of my door on both sides, I appear to have a 'blank' (soft rubber) where they need to be fitted (going by the size) - am I being blind or does the 'blank' need to be removed some how - tips/hints please (or have I wasted me money) please ?
