Here's confirmation of a worthwhile tip, my son found for me, on an earlier thread stashed way down somewhere on one of the Merc forums.

Central Locking not activating with key fob:

1: Don't Panic...!!! (Like I did omg)
2: Check to see if Interior Light is working. If not, check Boot/Trunk Light is
working. If not, chances are its the fuse.

3: Read Page 189 of the SLK Owners Manual and/or

4: Pop the bonnet and locate black plastic fuse box on the left hand side rear,
in the engine bay.
5: Squeeze cover lug and open black plastic fuse box lid and remove cover.
6: You'll see on the reverse of the cover the circuit identifiers label.
7: Circuit 9 is what you want to check.
There is also Circuit 26 - Yellow 20Amp for the Central Locking but in mine this
was okay.
8: Circuit 9 is a Red 10Amp fuse for the Interior (Roof) Light, Boot Light, Horn,
and Alarm Activation.
9: Pry this fuse carrier out.
There's a tool for this in the vehicle took kit. I used long nose pliers.
10: Check the fuse. If blown, replace with similar Red 10Amp fuse.
Spare fuses are usually contained within the fuse box.
11: If this resolves the issue give huge thanks to the forum contributors that help
to keep us on the road and out of the clutches of the money grabbing main
dealerships that would happily charge £60+ for a STAR diagnostic check
bollocks to them.
12: Have a great day.!!! Hopefully out in the car with the top down. Yeehaa...

Welcome to The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

First please update your location and vehicle (year?: 1996-2016, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
FREE!! Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.
