Hi all!

Just joined this group with my 2001 R170 230k!

I want to add a seat lumbar support inside the seat and want to get the plastic seat back off to do so..
Any help with this would be great!

Thanks

Hi,

Fresh in my mind as I stripped my 2 old Cloth seats last week to keep the Switch Packs and Motors as spares for the Leather set now in the Car, (recliner motor is inside the seat back) ;)

You have to remove the Seat's Cloth trim from the recess all the way around the plastic back of the Seat, then roll it upwards about 1/3rd way up towards the Head Rest Post Trims so turning it kinda inside out and upwards, then you will see four times TX20 torx bolts holding it onto the metal seat frame

Once you get that far, and to aid reassembly, it is easy then to press in the lugs retaining the Plastic Head rest Pole Trims and completely remove Cover, turn it back in the right way, put it all back together, don't put the Pole Trims back until last !!

HTH, Cheers Dave

Thought a picture of how the skin is fastened to the back with push-in clips might help . There are about 13 clips. Some came out fastened to the leather and some were left in the channel when I pulled the skin away. I'm still pondering as to whether it's necessary to re install them when I re-assemble.

Seat lumbar support

Ok so with your help I've taken one side of the seat leather cover partially off, lifted up the foam and tucked my inflatable cushion inside!
Have left the bulb used for inflating the cushion on the floor..
I carefully refitted the trim clips and tucked the trim into the plastic backing panel and also at base of seat..

So to try it out! Jumped in & gently pumped the bulb until I could feel lumbar support..hey! seems to work well!!

Will try it out on road later..:)

Really look forward to hearing the result, and if it works, a link to the supplier.
