Hello All
I bought a R170 about Two months ago, i noticed that my boot would open and my roof would not come out and go back up.
this happened intermittantly and sometimes the roof would not open but the boot had opened.

I took out the boot open switch and this worked properly.
i had the car connected to a computer at a local Benz specialist garage.
the car had lots of errors on nearly all of the switches,i had them all reset and had the front switch replaced thats under the sun visor.

Well this weekend i was in brighton and went out and about, the boot opened and the boot would not come out of the boot, i tried it about 30 times. went for a drive and tried it a few more times.
i got back to my starting point and the dame thing worked
i noticed that when pushing the button it did look like it was trying to lift.
the hyrralic pump fluid level is showing its between the min and max.

the garage i went to said they have replaced the switch under the visor and now the next step would be two replcae the two switches in the roof lining,

my questions are

would the roof look like its trying to lift? (moves/jults with press of button)
does a dealer have a roof diagnosis process that would be better than trail and error of changing switches?
would another diagnosis tell me whats wrong with it now all of the old codes have been cleared?
Please help give me some idea's

keep the engine running when you stop the roof
it will stay in place, and beep before it moves
I think it will give you a minute or two.

The owners manual states that in order to clean the rear window, you can stop the mechanism and it will stay in place for 7 minutes. Renewed momentary operation of the switch would extend the time by another 7 minutes. You should leave the key in position (2).

Hello All
An Update!

Today my car is in the garage after the weekend of pain with the Roof.
the have tried it over and over and over today and the roof works everytime.
The connected it to the computer and there are no errors in the computer module so its not an electrical fault as no switches reported a fault.

Where can i go next.
Thanks

Hi There
funny thing is the garage had it all day and it worked everytime
I drive it home dissapointed that they could not find the fault pressed the button and the roof would not open but the boot/trunk was opening.
i took it straight back to the garage and showed them
now its going in monday.
good thing is (well not good) is thatthe roof will now not open at all which means the intermittant problem seems to have become a perminant one.

update 2

Update:
Well this morning the roof would still not open and i was doing some reading.
I decided that even know i had check the trunk/boot open switch before with a multimeter before i would try and remove the ballow (rubber ring) on the switch to see if it made a difference
my roof has worked twice so far and i think i will need to keep trying it until it fails again.
lets hope it does not.

update 3

ok roof is working better, still does not work all of the time but working better.
failed once or twice rather than not working at all

if a switch did not open or close at the correct time would it always log a fault in the computer>???

Update
So far so good, i coudl not wait until monday i took the roof lining off after reading the info from Bazzle in another thread and foudn that one of the roof switches on the right hand side was not releasing at all.
i took the ballow off both sides and it has worked since.

It will take me a few days b4 i say its working but i am glad i found a problem after all.
next task smart roof

after much research i found the attached document and my problems seem to be the same symptoms as shown for s69/2 & s69/3 on page 14
i think i will change these on Monday and see how it behaves after that
Many Thanks from over the pond. This .pdf is indeed a blessing. I've got a 230 with the roof problem and I'm getting to be quite the expert on this darn thing. Between all the posts and this posting of this .pdf things now make some sense.
