Sure this has probably been asked before but is it possible to get roof bars for a 230K R170?

Won't need them very often, but they're kind of essential for my annual skiing trip!

Many thanks all

I agree, roof bars would be ridiculous, but I ski !

There doesn't seem to be a site with ordering info, prices etc. on the link you kindly gave me.

Anyone know anywhere in the UK I might be able to get some?

Or maybe even some kind soul who lives somewhere near me (Bristol, UK) from whom I might be able to borrow some?

I've just bought a set of roof bars, the plan was to fit a mountain bike on the roof rather than hang it off the boot, but they came without fitting instructions!!!

Ebay item number 321493088493

Any help most welcome

I think (but may be wrong) that the car has to have been specified with fixings on front screen pillars and rear wheel arches at manufacture.
As a minimum it requires dealer modifications to enable bars to be fitted

I've been to my local mercedes dealer, just waiting for a phone call with a price to adapt/replace the 'A' pillars so they will accept the roof bars.

I was told they have done this job before but only once, and it was quite a while ago.
Here's hoping it can still be done, otherwise they are no good to me.

Help or advice needed!!!

After fitting the roof bars (in the above post) we loaded two mountain bikes onto a pair of bike holders attached to the bars.
After driving for about 15 minutes, we pulled into an off-road car park and unloaded the bikes to go for a ride.
There was a load crack as the rear screen shattered!!!

Is this just a weird coincidence or have the fitted bars affected the rear screen to cause it to shatter???
I don't think the bars would cause stress on the rear screen but hopefully somebody will shed some light on this minor inconvenience.

Many thanks

Query was 2014, but it's a timeless question

We do a lot of biking. Rather than a roof rack on a vario roof, I reckoned it was better to install a towbar and a rear bike rack that does not touch the car.

Here is an American who did the same thing: Adding a (that?s right) Trailer Hitch » Rambling Along the Roads. Note that the boot (trunk)did not touch the rack when opening the roof. Check to make sure your rack is far enough away.

You can also get a towball affixing ski rack.

Roof bars fitted today!!!
It took about 3 hours to fit the retro fitting kit. It cost £165 from Mercedes in Croydon.
It should only take about 1 hour but it was trial and error to get everything in place.
A few photos to show it finished....
hi, may i ask the parts number of the roof bars , so that i can find out from the mercedes benz dealer from my country , thanks

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Florida!

First please update your vehicle (year?: 1996-2018) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.

Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Join the gang! Your 1st thread should be your introduction so we can welcome you properly so post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section. Click this: New Members Introduce Yourself Here - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

On a smartphone: http://www.slkworld.com/new-members-introduce-yourself-here/330737-how-update-your-profile-post-intro-smartphone.html

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable or to ‘edit’, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM/edit. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
