Hi.
I took out "The Siren" for a short testdrive yesterday (Not complatly legal since I have the wrong tires on) and I noticed that the lights in the IC was pulsating, and also the headlights did the same, It got worse when I turned on the rear defroster and high beam, Did that just for testing.
After a couple of minutes it stabilized.
I had this problem once before and then I added an extra groundcable between the engine and chassi and it have worked perfectly since then, but now it was back
Other than that she worked perfectly and SDS gives her a clean report, no current or stored faults.
The voltageregulator was replaced in the alternator when I rebuilt a 946 to a 947 in 2020 and the battery is from 2020 and logging in to my maintenance charger she has been connected to all winter the battery seems to be in great condition.

I can´t get her inside because "Sleepy" is occuping that space.

Any ideas where I should start looking?

Brgds Petri

It does sound like an alternator problem 😅 Unless you're absolutely sure the alternator is working properly, and since you have another, it might be worth it to swap them over and see if you still have the problem.

No, I´m not absolutly sure and I will look into that, But I´m not that concerned about it.
It only happens for a couple of minutes at cold start, If I turn the car off and restart 1 hour later there is no problem, But if I wait until the next morning it´s back for a couple of minutes.

I was curios if someone else had this issue or symtoms.

Did the pulsation change with engine RPM? And how long ago did you add the ground strap?
I have to check that, I only had the car on idle at the moment.
And I don´t remember when I added an extra groundcable in the front of the engine.
Before that I made a new groundcable that goes between the back of the engine and chassi and I think that was when I made the engine swap in 2020, so maybe 2021 before my life become a complete mess.

Thanks fpr your reply

@efair
I went out, started The Siren up, She started up really nice without any hesitation and the ic lights and headlamps was pulsating at idle.
Increased the rpm and the frequenze was the same, It did not change.
Took out my phone to record it, but during the time (Maybe a minut) between I started her up and my phone was ready to record the lights was stable again.
I´m not really concerned about this since SDS gives her a clean report and everything is working as it should, But it´s a little bit annoying.

That is really odd. My car did not set codes when the voltage regulator failed, and no dash light warning appeared either. So don't mistake "no codes" for "no problems". Digital monitoring does have its limits in the analog world.

I know that there is an issue and I will try to find the sourse to this.
And I agree no code is not the same as there is no problem.

But I´m working on 2 slk 320 and my health is not the best.
This is the only thing that is annoying me about The Siren,, otherwise she is working perfectly
