As I pulled into my parking garage today I heard a clunk under the hood.

Engine light and Battery light came on. I pulled into first parking spot and raised the hood to see 1 belt broken and the 2nd belt off the pulleys. Then I saw a pulley missing!
The pulley was laying on the engine guard under the motor.

Can you tell me what this pulley is for and where to buy another one?

I'm hoping it is an easy fix I can do in the parking garage. I really don't want to pay for a wrecker and mechanic.

Sorry for the iPhone low quality pics.

Anyone have a pulley diagram of the r170 motor so I can see what that pulley goes to?

I need to order one asap. This is my daily driver.

Thx

AWESOME HELP!

Smooth pulley. No grooves.

Looks like the 2nd drawing with the 2 belts is like mine.

The pulley just to the right of the main big pulley.

Any idea what that pulley turns?

Sorry to hear Brent. Looks almost like the photo of the belt tensioner that DJC013 posted. Good luck with the repair. Never heard of one coming off before.

I wonder how snug I am suppose to tighten the bolt that holds it on?

Yeah, I was lucky. I had just gotten off the freeway and into my parking garage. Glad it did not happen out on the road and strand me on side of freeway.

Just a tensioner pully, Easy to get to, easy to fix, broke down in covered parking garage... what more can a guy ask for?:biglaugh:

I was really lucky.

A Crossfire spec is 10ft lbs. I would expect the SLK to be similar.

My experience on other belt tensioners is that the tightness isn't too critical as long as it is pretty snug. I always wanted the tensioners to be pretty snug. You don't want it coming loose...again.
