Greetings,

I registered a couple years ago when I was shopping for a new car and was considering an SLK. I eventually ended up buying a 2006 E350 that I enjoyed and took good care of. Unfortunately, it met its demise when I encountered a red-light runner the day before Thanksgiving so I'm back in the SLK market.

I'm leaning towards an r171, but am unsure what motor. I know about the balance-shaft issues on the M272, and will steer clear of the low-mileage deals that seem too good to be true. I do like idea of getting an AMG, and they do not seem that much more expensive.

I have DAS / Xentry. Love it.

As far as personal stuff, I live in Southern California and am a BIG fan of Mercedes Petronas AMG F1.

Thanks for the community,
Dave

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

There's a low mileage 2011 SLK for sale in Fountain Valley (ref Craigslist OC). I have nothing with do with this car and don't know the seller.

Hi Dave,
It sounds like you've been here longer than I have but just now getting around to SLK ownership. Obviously the forum needs no real introduction and all the info to make an informed choice is here. Listen to the experts.

Without wishing to be blunt or unwelcoming, I've just watched the YouTube video of your red light accident. There is no question that the red light runner was in the wrong but I have to ask where were you when this accident happened?

The red light runner is clearly visible from a very long way back and moving slowly. I just can't believe you didn't see him in time to avoid a collision? Just my twopenneth.0:)

Hi Gromit,
The dashcam has a wide-angle lens that makes things look farther away than they are. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :D

Hi Dave,

Great intro.

Welcome from Wirral, England.

We have an 09 350 and 07 55 in our house.

They are both good cars.
The 55 costs more to run overall and that's why the missus went for the 350.

I have the bigger braking system on my pre facelift 55.
Fantastic stopping power but an extra servicing cost.

So many exhaust options that you can make them sing as loud or quiet as you want.

Sorry to hear that a red gambler brought you to this point, but I think any SLK will make you smile.

Two important threads for your hunt are the datacard check before you commit to buy (See Jbanks earlier post)
and the new/used check list:
http://www.slkworld.com/general-discussion/68666-new-used-vehicle-pickup-checklist.html

You have DAS so use it.
The codes list is in the general threads and the VIN recalls list.

Regional threads for you:

We're currently voting on Ride of The Month.

Good hunting.
