I'm new here and looking at possibly picking up a very nicely maintained 2005 SLK350. However, I'm new to owning a used Mercedes and the balancer issue has me concerned as looks like this car is affected. Car has been maintained by local dealer. Would dealer have serviced this automatically given the lawsuits?

Here is vin WDBWK56F25F021299

Other than above concern car looks immaculate and only 58k miles on it.

Thank you! Car is a really well kept example, garage kept, older couple and looks like was only driven on weekends. I drove it on Saturday afternoon and everything worked, no obvious signs of any issues or areas of concern.
I am getting a PPI done on car tomorrow so fingers are crossed.

Make sure everything works, if it's an auto box check that the fluid has been changed at 40k.
If in doubt get it checked over by a independent specialist.
Hope it works out for you.

If you are going to have a PPI done then make sure they do the visual inspection to determine if the engine shows signs of excessive balance shaft gear wear. 50k - 70K is when many that are affected reveal the damage. So, if this one passes the visual inspection you are highly unlikely to have an issue. No guaranty, but highly unlikely.

Yes, thank you. I spoke to dealer and expressed my concern and will reiterate that in the morning. Just based on the VIN looks like it does fall in the category for the issue. Service guy said car had extended warranty through 2009 and was serviced regularly so I'm hoping it checks out ok. Coming out of a 996 series Porsche and the IMS "issues" rampant on those forums I am looking for "less" excitement or maybe I am just a glutton for punishment, LOL.

p.s. do NOT Google "Porsche 996 IMS" or it will become the stuff of nightmares!
