Hi everyone.
I am hoping to get some advice.
My wife has had an early R170 SLK 230K for a good few years and its been great.
She was coming home tonight and this is her description.
There was a peculiar noise like a tapping/knocking noise. The next thing she noticed the steering was very heavy. At that point she also glanced at the coolant temperature gauge which was apparantly at the top of the gauge.
She struggled to steer home half a mile or so but noticed then that the temperature gauge then came back down to normal.
I have had a look but I am certainly no mechanic. The temperature gauge seems to be OK and there is no steam coming from the engine bay but there is no power steering at all.
It will ber very difficult to get the car to a garage so I wanted an idea first of what may be wrong? Obviously power steering related.
How could/would this affect the coolant temperature gauge or did she imagine that in the panic?
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
