My car, previously so reliable has suddenly lost all power. It starts without hesitation but yesterday seems to be fading away and I was nearly overtaken by a cyclist!
The car is currently in intensive care with a body work specialist, where do I start looking when it comes home later this week.
The service history is up to date, any suggestions or do I take it to my garage for them to try to solve the problem?:frown:

Evening Dave, I would buy a cheap OBD II fault code reader and see if anything has been stored that is causing the problem. They are about £12 takes most of the guesswork away, there are quite a few problems that affect the performance of the car but will not illuminate the check engine light but will leave a fault code .

Regards Stuart.

Depending what caused the bodywork needing to go to a specialist (if not an upgrade) your clue may lay there?

Forecourts have defences against water ingress, but with record rain who knows. It may not need to be in a flooded area (ingress from ground water is rare) but 'may' get driven in whilst vents are open for refuelling (yours or theirs).

The suddenness is also a clue.

Your quickest route is checking the plugs (as said), if electrics come back okay I'd favour the wet fuel.

If you ask, there may be someone near to you with a reader. There's quite a few NW UK folk on here.

That far, you will have spent nothing but time to eliminate potential causes.

Thanks for your kind offer, have ordered a reader last night. Thanks also to the other members for ideas and links which have given me much to work on. Will post on the site when the problem is resolved... that's me thinking positive!
Regards, Dave T
