Welcome from just West of London - The R172/55 is a great car & good to own a V8 Roadster while You can (y)

The Cotswolds and over into Wales is great on a sunny day, with the top down and totally different experience to a SUV or 4x4 in Your case. Great that You are getting a deceit test drive, to get the feel for it.

One option that wasn't standard even on the R172/55 was Air-Scarf, which is a nice to have option and a good bargaining point if missing..

Which 5 Spoke Alloys does it have? Different colour scheme or design could improve the look?

The Face Lift R172 had the Black in-lays and Diamond cut finish:

Many thanks.

Its got the 5 spoke Code 790 wheels (top left) which I assume were standard on the car which was first registered 21/1/14. I think the Code 760 black wheels look a lot better with Diamond White but I guess its all individual preference and ultimately they're all the same size so do the same job hence I'm trying to ignore them.

Airscarf is listed on the build spec they've sent me along with Parktronic, Pano vario-roof, ambient lighting, remote control roof, mirror pack & Diamond White paint.

Love Wales 馃榾. Mountain biking, motorbiking and potentially now in an SLK, day loops via Snowdonia & Elan Valley, lots of great flowing roads to play on.

I viewed & drove the SLK 55 for the first time today at Merc dealer in Milton Keynes. It was immaculate and I fit in it (which is a relief) so I'm buying it and collecting tomorrow 馃榾. Had its B service yesterday so hopefully good for 12 months.

Quick query, they said it should be run on premium fuel, not the standard petrol. Is that correct?

ONLY PREMIUM.

If you run low, in an emergency you can put in lesser (mid or heaven forbid, reg) but ONLY enough to get you to the next station.

IIRC, manual says no more than 1/4 tank.

Firstly, congratulations.
I hope that you remembered the obligatory smile whilst aboard.

Secondly, fuel.
When sold it was recommended to be run on premium. I have run mine on 95 BEFORE the switch to E10 in regular without effect. So, it can be done, at least short term if premium unavailable.

During the recent shortages I used half a tank of E10 to top up, then had to do the same again.
Car ran well, but it is desirable to avoid E10 if at all possible.

Plenty of E10 threads on here if you search.
nb It is intended NOT to change premium to E10.
Puzzling then, why premium shows E5 on the stickers, yet has switched to an E10 logo on the handle, same as regular.

Enjoy your new ride.
Top down drives on winter evenings are surprisingly rewarding and you remain cosseted.

I'm going to put another spin on what other have mentioned about fuel - this is a (high!) performance engine! It needs to be taken care of and premium fuel (I/my car seem to like Shell V-Power best) is if not vital, then at least prefered.

Your car, being a R172, have the next generation sport/race engines designed and built from the ground up by AMG. A company that have specialised in high and extreme performance.. Don't do it a disservice and give it less to drink :). And it DOES like to drink. A LOT!! :D :D

Many thanks for input re fuel. So (running diesels for 20+ years, I don't know about petrol 馃槵 apart from for the land mower) is 'Premium fuel' - Super Unleaded (97 / 98 RON) or is it the next level up as in V-Power (which you mentioned Turbo) and BP Ultimate? Yep, I feel a numpty asking this.

Here in the UK, V-Power is 97 octane. I feed it 102 octane when I traveled through Germany this summer :D :D. Don't think that's available here in the UK though, only ever seen it in Germany. But the more [octane] the better!!

I've seen tests (from the UK TV show "Fifth Gear"), that the BP Premium and Ultimate is .. well, ok so not bad, but not any where near as good as V-power. Also, my car didn't much care for it. It didn't run BAD, but not as good as with V-Power. That might just have been an illusion based on my preconsived opinions, but... :D :D

Oh blimey, drove the 55 2.5hrs back home from dealers, roof down, sports mode, cross country and plenty of full throttle gear changes and high rev downshifts using the paddles. The crackles and growls are just awesome and the tail happy handling makes it so much more involving. Very happy, such a fun car and I can see why everyone on SLKWorld love their cars. Awesome 馃憤

Congratulations, enjoy it.
I have had mine for 3 years, use it as a daily driver and it still makes me smile every time I drive it.
I use only shell v power nitro + or Tesco momentum 99.
Thanks. What a daily driver! Coincidently those are the two fuels the dealer recommended and I filled with Momentum 99 as the first one I came across.
