Potential Mercedes-Maybach E-Class Spotted While Testing, Call Us Intrigued - Photo Gallery - autoevolution
Even though the freshly-revealed Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe is stealing the show, there are other models in Mercedes-Benz's lineup.
However, for this one, we're digging up old rumors because the Maybach nameplate seems to be involved. To be more precise, we're talking about a story that hit the internet in January.
Back then, word on the street was that the next Mercedes-Maybach model could, in fact, be also a range-topping version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
The statement came from Steve Cannon, chief executive of Mercedes-Benz USA, who said in an interview that more Maybach-branded models are inevitable.
Now, our team of spy photographers just sent in a batch of photos showing what they think to be the new Mercedes-Maybach E-Class. What led them to believe that? Well, that's pretty easy, if you take a closer look at the test mule's extended wheelbase.
Also, the rear doors are much longer, while at a second glimpse you'll be able to spot the small Maybach window in the C-pillar, which they have chosen to disguise on this particular test prototype.
So, is this the Mercedes-Maybach E-Class officials were talking in January? We can't know for sure, but consider this: the E-Class L is only destined for the Chinese market and, then again, you can't see the third additional window in the regular long-wheelbase E-Class.
Also, the rear windows are tinted, so this might be the brand's way of hiding the back seats and the interior setup chosen for this area.
There's no word on technologies and engine choices, but we expect Mercedes to put their best available in this car. After all, the upcoming 2017 E-Class saloon will be equipped with a Remote Parking Pilot system, that uses a smartphone app that allows the occupants to get out and park it in a much tighter space than normal.
