The only time one should post in an old thread is to post a resolution/fix/update to the thread topic.
How old is old? More than 2 years usually
Otherwise, just start a new thread.

Members like an OP original poster, might no longer be an active member

NOTE: some of the following comments relate to the "old forum format" but generally, this post is the one to refer to.

Oh..and it is not they are posting in an old thread
it is their NOT knowing that they are posting in an old thread :D

some cases fit, n some don't
we get newbies welcoming members from 5 years ago as an example
then everyone starts welcoming someone that has not be on the forum in 5 years

bottom line
post in an old thread if relevant with a fix or a resolution

same or new issue? make a new thread or it will be buried at the bottom of an old thread

better for it being noticed
Thanks for you comment and observation
:D

If you have an issue it is better to start a new thread and refer to any old thread that is relevant,
preferably with a link.
Each post has this at the bottom:

Click share & then copy the link and paste into your reply:

Definitely do not post issues in your introduction.

Why?

Because folk do not always read old threads/introductions.
We don't want your troubles to be ignored.
Plus, it is harder to find replies given to you, when others have the same issue later.
Post your intro first and then post your question in the relevant section.

A reminder that it is better to start new threads for issues and refer to the older ones.
Your problem will more likely be seen.
