( post 8) Effort to downshift the automatic gearbox r171

381 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Trisha Edwards
In order to manually downshift my automatic SLK200 R171, I have to apply slightly more pressure than when upshifting.

Upshifting can be done with two fingers only, but downshifting takes some more muscle. I already lifted the centre panel, but that had no effect on the 'shifting efforts'. So there does not seem to be anything that's influencing movement of the stick.

Is it possible to adjust the 'point of contact' where the shifter meets the sensor?

Any ideas?

Btw, please forgive my English. I am Dutch and English isn't my first, nor my second language.

Dennis

I have a 2010 and have never had the issue. Has it always been like that?
Hi Trisha,

Thanks for your answer!

We purchased the car only a few weeks ago, so yeah... it's always been like this ;)

I drove nearly 200 miles in the past two days and it drives and shifts perfectly smooth. I can manually up and downshift without problems. Just have to push harder to the left than to the right.

It doesn't keep me awake at night, but it would be nice if someone knows if something can be done/ adjusted to solve it.

Cheers,
Dennis
Retrofit a steering wheel with paddles and enable manual mode and this will solve it.

Thanks. That's also an option.
Will think about it and wait a bit more too, to see if anyone else has an idea.

Thanks anyway. Appreciated!

Just took the console out again to see. It appears that there was some wiring at the left side pushing the console a little bit to the right. I'm talking about a millimetre or so. Re-routed it and...... It seems to be fixed now.

Thanks for your help !
