A call from the painter yeterday saying " your cars finished"

"Give the glass guy a call & get the rear glass fitted"

Promptly called National Windscreens and arranged an appointment for this morning

He arrived at the body-shop and completed the task

The car was outdoors when he fitted the glass, he was alone

He came to my office to get his work sheet signed to say everything was OK, I declined as I hadn't seen the job

I would sign later

I went to collect the car, as excited as a kid on Christmas eve

It's looking ace (pictures will follow)

The sun was shining (although it was 0 degrees) but it would be wrong not too 0:)

A quick flick of the button saw the windows drop, the boot open.............

And screw all else :crying:

The roof has been up and down loads of times in the short time I've owned the car, I wanted to make sure it was in good working order

The painter has had it up and down a few times too, always without issue

I got on the phone to the glass man, he appeared within the hour, and said he fitted the rear screen without dropping the roof? as he said "It wouldn't go down" first time both myself and the painter heard this story

He's saying it's nothing to do with him! as is my painter :|

What would you do? is this just coincidental?

Having had a quick look around this forum, I tried this later and it worked

As the boot is fully open pull it further towards the rear of the car, bingo the roof folds down

Suggesting it's the sensor in the boot (offside)

My problem is...... I handed the car over in good faith, with a fully functioning roof and got it handed back broken

Who do I fight with? as both are saying "Not my problem"

I had a similar episode once when my 171 was is the body shop having a rear diffuser painted and fitted. They had removed trim inside the boot to do the work and on reassembly hadn’t reconnected the wiring for the partition switch.
Luckily because I knew what it was I had them fix the issue within 10 minutes and was on my way.

Does anyone concur with this diagnoses?

Have you tried without assisting since you did the above?

In regard to a claim if that hasn't fixed:
The painter said it worked, but did you witness that?
If not, it is going to be hard to resolve and you need professional advice.

Hope you've either figured, or fixed it.

Total bummer when it spoils what should have been a riding on air moment.

1: Yep still needs a helping hand :|

2: Yeh! it kinda spoilt the moment, but there will be plenty more

Even though you havent got a 3....

3: I'm putting it down to coincidence 0:)

To be fair, my cynical mind would say it's your painter.

Glass guy had no reason to open or close the roof when fitting.

Just my 2pence, certainly not enough to go back in and demand him to repair it.

Would be interested to know what you paid for the paint job though, maybe PM me please?

Two new genuine wings @ £189.00 each (Arnold Clark Mercedes with works discount)

Two brackets fabricated to hold wings at bumper (old ones perished) £20.00 from a friend

Paint job £1200 (sounds cheap but he owed me a favour)

I'm really happy with the finish

Weather is hellish here so will fire up some shots later

Top is being looked at this weekend :crying:

Well got to the bottom of it :|

All the sensors are/were working perfectly

Seems somehow! the arm the holds the trunk/boot up had moved a smidge (don't ask!) ****

But a little adjustment means all is OK Vairo department

It was up and down more times today than a kangaroo on a trampoline >:D

All the gaps are spot on

Weather permitting, I'm going to throw on the AMG Monoblocks I picked up last week (I like the retro look)

Who's a Happy Bunny :Banane42:

I make it a point not to operate my top when it's extremely cold out and the vehicle has been outside.I hope you get it figured out.
