My 2006 slk280 (r171), which is just approaching 89,000 miles has developed a problem of having Petrol Vapour in the Cabin and Boot/Trunk area. Now I have looked in the 'Search' section and found that it could be either a one-way valve or a blocked Charcoal filter.
So my questions are the following........
Where are the one-way valve and Charcoal filter located ?
Can the one-way valve and Charcoal filter be removed while the car is on ramps ?
Does the Petrol tank have to be empty ?
Does the Petrol tank have to be removed ?
Or, do I have to take my car to the Dealership and pay the sky high prices ?

I hope some one can help here. :x

I don't believe the R171 has a check valve (like the R170 does). The charcoal canister is under the car, covered by a plastic panel, near the rear axle. I wouldn't expect the canister to cause odor in the cabin. Maybe in the garage, but not in the cabin.

These parts are easy to remove, if you back onto the ramps you can probably access them if needed. And no need to drain the fuel. If you replace the rubber seal for the fuel filter, yes, tank needs to be below 1/4.
