OK this is a silly question.
Today I was stuck in traffic on the way home from work and I was bored enough to inspect my car interior in minute detail while waiting for the car ahead to get going.
I noticed that the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator light in the front console of my 2015 SLK250 is always on when there isn't a passenger in the seat (it goes off when someone sits in the passenger seat, as intended. I checked).
I don't remember noticing previously that it stays on all the time and can't for the life of me remember if this is the normal default for the light (the manual doesn't help), or if it supposed to stay unlit normally and only comes on if there is a small child or other low-weight occupant in the passenger seat.
If "on" is the normal state for the light, I can't believe I never noticed it before today (maybe had become so much part of the background that I gave it no attention).
