MB could well be screwing us, but perhaps not. The other cars mentioned sell in larger volumes so unit costs go down. Let's hope that is at least part of why MB charges so much... (I'm the optimist :) )

ACURA RL:

ACURA RL TECH:

The Tech package adds Colision Mitigation and Run Flats as well as a rear camera which I insisted Acura put in my RL.

EVERY CAR... EVERY CAR... Should have as a LAW, back up sensors about $12 added bucks! IT saves LIVES.

Mercedes is in it for the bucks, you want safety, pay extra. What Mercedes Benz doesn't get is that we are buying Mercedes Benz Cars to be on the cutting edge of safety, reliability (ha ha) and technology. Isn't that why we pay $70K for an AMG SLK55??????? Especially in an AMG...Sheesh!

In 2000 miles it's worth $10K less. So Mercedes Benz how about Bluetooth??? Do you want to kill off all the people that can afford to buy your cars because we had to reach into our briefcase for the phone? Now I don't crash cars (hopefully) but isn't pushing a button on the wheel a lot smarter and safer than hittin a tree?

F) FREE BLUETOOTH NOW!!!

LET'S ALL TELL MB "SAFE HAPPENS"!!! and buy VW's!

:tu:First step to reduce cost, factory installation when the car is built. Cut out the middle man (dealer).
why are they doing this.... we deserve premium quality of car and service...
not freaking BT FOR $2XXX ~~ i rather buy new wheel or suspention for that money.....

i was wondering is it possible to use IPHONE to play music and use phone function at the same time while it's charging with audio A20?

if so... how much are we talking here....

From what I've heard on this forum, it is possible to have that type of hookup if you have the IPOD integration kit and bluetooth. Both will probably not work at the same time because if the phone rings, the music will mute or pause. I'm unsure of cost though. Also, the phone book download works as well. hope this helps.
You could do what I do, free Bluetooth option if you have a need for it at a specific time. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 660 a little over a month ago to use in both my cars and for when I travel. I don't use it all the time, but I found a nice place to wedge/mount it behind the shifter in front of the ash tray whenever I want to use it. The unit has bluetooth and can be used for hands-free calling on it's own, and it can also sync with the car's audio system through an open FM frequency. So, if I want to make a call I can just dial touchscreen on the nav unit and it'll work through the car as long as I have the radio on the FM station that I'm broadcasting over. If you want to keep it simple, you could just use the nav unit on it's own for the audio, and of course it has a mic for picking up your voice in either setup. It's also great if you want to find and call a business/restaurant because it has a huge POI directory with phone numbers that can be called just by pressing "call" when a phone is connected.

Of course this is nothing like a true integrated hands-free system, but it actually works pretty well.

Ive got the Mercedes Benz Bluetooth UHI and its works fine and the sound is very clear no problems so far.
FABULOUS!!!! GREAT TO HEAR!!!!

"UHI" Can you explain the acronym please?

ahh..
Universal Hooker Interface?
Unusual Human Interaction?
Unbelievable Hottie Inside?

Annnnyyyyway... I have my Mercedes Benz dealer installing BT (BlueTooth) and I blew my top when he tried to charge me $2000. I walked toward the door and started to make a scene Frikin Fracka @$*%$ Mercedes can KISS MY Frickin Fracka!

Eventually, we settled on $900 for the Entire Thing - Out-the-door, installed tested and working!

Just, how do you justify this **** when a $20K Nissan has BT in it? HUH?? can anyone tell me that?? Greedy Bastards... and it's not that the dollar is weak and the Euro is strong. I'm not buying it! The Japanese give us way more toys for way less money, and you don't hear them crying about profits... Yep, we delivered the Bomb and THEY won the War.

I put down the phone and drive the car.

I have a Nokia phone and Bluetooth on my 2006 Acura TSX; the Bluetooth cell phone connection is a standard feature. I don’t have a Bluetooth headset for the Nokia.

Even as no-additional cost (and I agree with -1- Don), it’s cool but not worth that much (maybe a few hundred bucks). I considered getting a Parrot for the SLK. However, I’ve gotten so that I turn the phone off while in the roadster and pay attention to driving. R)I suspect this is why Germans wouldn’t have cupholders either if left to their own devices.

So, those folks who paid the premium to use their Bluetooth phone: was it worth it enough to do it again?

Earlier life: 1966 Datsun 1600 Sport, 1972 BMW 2002tii, 1973 Volvo 142e, 72 Datsun 240Z, 72 Mercedes 250, 73 BMW 2002, 73 Datsun 260Z, 73 Volvo 164e, 71 BMW 2800cs, 77 BMW 320i, 82 Mercedes 300D, 84 BMW 325e, 86 Acura Legend, 90 Miata, 00 Acura TL

Cars are expensive PITA; get one you like.

:tu:Good job, $900 is a fair price for a fully integrated factory style system.
Please help, i still don't get it about the Phone System Prewiring. As i told from MBenz dealer over the phone, they said, all I need is a Bluetooth interface module for my car, since my car has a phone system prewiring. Therefore, I ordered a part# B6 787 5878 for my car, bad news came,, I just found out last night, my car needed a cradle(MHI Connector) in order to connect the bluetooth. What do i need to get this bluetooth working??

MB nomenclature is misleading in this regard. The prewiring means just that. You'd still need the core kit and completer kit as stated in my previous post on page 2. If you don't see the receptacle to which the Bluetooth puck connects to in the center console area (as shown on pix in page 1 of this thread , post #9) then you need the 2 kits (dealer installed option).

I found something like this, check the page 10-12, do you think I can able to do this myself? Maybe I juse need to order the core kit and completer kit from the dealer, did you get yours done? Any idea how much and parts#?

I know UK-C200 and Adam and others can do it. If you're good at DIY it's do-able. I had mine done by the dealer, see post #21 of this thread, page 2, for breakdown of parts and labor cost.

Also remember the center console storage is configured differently on the 2008 model year. There is no upper or lower chamber to the center console storage.

You certainly can do it yourself with average DIY skills its mostly bolting parts in place and hooking up connectors.

Still the parts are very $$$
Anyone successful in the installation?
Hey Zich - successful in the install of the completer kit on a pre-wired car? Yes, but not on a >MY2008 car - I've only done the older dual chamber style center consoles, not that I think it would be impossible by any stretch.

Installing on a non-prewired car can be done as well - I've a friend in Germany who's done it - but I was not involved in the actual install...
