Took European delivery of my new 2013 SLK 55 AMG in June. Great experience, highly recommended. Drove over 1,000 miles in Germany.
The MB shipment, free back to the states was perfect. No scratches or anything. Picked up the vehicle at Jackie Cooper Imports, the local dealer in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is a fantastic dealership, highly recommended.

As I travel to Germany every summer the European Delivery program was especially rewarding for me.

This car is fantastic in that while it has awesome power, it can be sedately driven like some big lazy sedan. I am getting around 22 mpg local driving and not hot-rodding. Gonna take some long distance driving of about 50-55 mph to reach the EPA highway mileage of 28. Not complaining as I didn't buy this car for fuel mileage.

For me the Harmon-Kardon sound system is great. I also love how the control knob on the console makes it so easy to switch around through all of the available menus.

The low end torque of this engine is fantastic. I'm a technology nut and the direct injection and crazy compression ratio of 12.6:1 on pump gas is super. I filled with some 100 octane Shell fuel on the Autobahn but it doesn't do anything special in spite of costing ~$9.00 dollars equavilant per gallon.

The Stop/Start feature, in economy mode, now only activates sometimes. It's hit and miss. From forum searches this is common. It's no big deal but I do like toys to work. When I have the dealer do the 10K service I'll have them look into this.

I keep her in a heated garage when I'm not driving and avoid bad weather like storms, snow, etc. My baby isn't a daily driver; I have a Smart for that. I also still have my 2004 BMW M3 with 26K miles that I plan to sell soon.

Love this car, I shoulda' done this years ago. ;)

I'll keep you all posted as time and mileage go by.

Congratulations on your 2013 R172 AMG. Mine just turned 1 year old and it's killing me that it's already a garage queen for the winter. Way to cold for the Conti 5Ps in my neck of the woods.

Do you still get a free day at AMG Driving Academy for Basic when you do European delivery? If so...GO! It's a blast. Did mine at Lime Rock this past September and it was a fantastic day.

If your dealer didn't tell you about it (mine didn't), you can check out the different tracks, training videos and register here: http://www.amgacademy.com/gallery/videos/episode-1-the-basics

They haven't posted the 2014 schedule, yet. but you have a full year from date of purchase to sign up.

(...oh, and Stop/Start drives me crazy, too.)

Schizo?

Don't you feel a little "schizo" going back and forth from the Smart to the AMG?:biglaugh:
Not at all I make the transition easily. It also makes me appreciate the AMG all the more. At least they are from the same stable.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch. Sounds like Euro delivery is a great way to go.

One reason is to get to drive on the Autobahn and see what the car can really do. But what about the "break-in" period. Not supposed to max the engine the first 1000 miles. Anyone have input on whether the break-in period is BS?

The autobahn and break-in recommendations.

While driving on the autobahn I DID follow the Benz break-in instructions.
It's not BS. I avidly follow the instructions of the people smart enough to design and build these cars.

The autobahn experience is still great!

I did also visit the Benz museum and the Porsche museum too. highly recommended.

Need info about Command

I have tried to no avail to connect my 2013 SLK55 AMG to the Amazon Cloud in order to play my 291 songs stored there.

Yes I know I can have my Android smart phone play these from Amazon then send music via Bluetooth into the Command system. I use this method often. Seems kinda kludgy though.

I then thought "Why not just log onto the cloud directly?" and skip the Bluetooth transfer action. It didn't work, I would get an error message stating that the server type (or something) was the wrong type. I called an Amazon tech and spoke about this and he said he would push this inquire up the Amazon food-chain, but I haven't heard anything.

Seems funny I can log onto Facebook etc. from my baby but not onto the Amazon cloud. Anyone out there tried any cloud access via the Benz Command system?

Thanx for any feedback!

Hi All

@ dlomshek Snap I to have a Smart for the daily drive , I call it my 'Carbon foot print offset car' . But do drive the AMG to work every Friday I call it 'Black Friday' Lolz .

@Pwslk only problem I have is to remember the bonnet/hood is a lot longer in the AMG as in the Smart you can not see any of the bonnet/hood.

Cheers

Andy
