A Portland inventor has done what many Oreo fans have been waiting for. He’s created a machine that separates crème from the cookie.

Physicist and copywriter David Neevel says his dislike for the Oreo crème inspired him to create the Oreo Separator Machine (OSM).

“I don’t have a catch phrase for my machine, but I guess if it did have one, it could be like ‘Let’s get that crème out of there’ or ‘This crème is no good. Get it off the cookies,’” said Neevel.

A well-produced, somewhat satirical video was shot in the Mad Dog Garage in Portland, where Neevel said he spent about “0.04 years” building the contraption.

The machine, which is about 50 times the size of a single cookie, combines wood, wiring, aluminum and robotics.

An arm grabs the cookie and places it on a panel that turns it sideways. A small hatchet then cuts through the crème, leaving both pieces of cookie separated. But since there is some crème still left on both sides, a router takes the remaining crème off the cookie.

The video has plenty of sarcasm, with Neevel admitting he had to make a lot of sacrifices for his invention.

“I didn’t get to see my girlfriend or my dog for hours at a time sometimes and I had to try to find a good sandwich in this part of the city,” said Neevel.
The invention is reportedly part of Oreo's "Cookies vs. Creme" campaign. Another inventor's concept is expected to be unveiled later this week.

The un-official motto of Portland is "Keep Portland weird". I guess it is things like this that make it a fitting motto after all.

It reminds me of the care worker who looked after an elderly gentleman who insisted on giving her shelled brazil nuts. It went on for weeks and she said " Look it not right you giving me these. you cant afford it" He replied " Its OK my family buy them for me and I only suck the chocolate off them " :biglaugh:

Ingredients of the Oreo...

SUGAR, UNBLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE {VITAMIN B1}, RIBOFLAVIN {VITAMIN B2}, FOLIC ACID), HIGH OLEIC CANOLA OIL AND/OR PALM OIL AND/OR CANOLA OIL, COCOA (PROCESSED WITH ALKALI), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, CORNSTARCH, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA AND/OR CALCIUM PHOSPHATE), SALT, SOY LECITHIN, VANILLIN--AN ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, CHOCOLATE. CONTAINS: WHEAT, SOY.

Methinks ... they stuck all the vitamins in there so Oreos could be sold as "food."

I don't think it should be that complicated, when you can just take or knife and remove it.(but why would you want to) Plus it puts indentions in the oreo, which is too much of a loss for me lol. It made me think of a classmate that invented a ketchup packet opener for invention convention and won first place...
