Here's the tale!
Jeff edit: This was before my Supercharger.
I only had my ECU tune and headers then
And did not have my dashcam back then

http://www.slkworld.com/performance-mods-r171/390442-my-kleemann-supercharger-adventure-vids-posted-153-188-198-a.html

I pull into my local Shell for a fillup
Just get finished and I see a Hellcat pull into a spot as if he is going to go into the store
I get in my car and as if he suddenly forgot something he backs up and pulls away in front of me
I knew what he was thinking already
He pulls out into the street and starts driving down the road right lane
I pulled out of shell and get into the left lane and of course roar right past him.
Ahhh, the light just turned red.
Here he comes and pulls up but behind my right rear, probably sizing up the competition
I can see the opposite light changing to red but he can't
He inches up so he can get a rolling start but has to stop because he misjudged it.
Light goes green and I am off. I see him changing gears with my peripheral vision but I am already way past him.
He shuts down and then gets behind me at the next light.
I see him turn left to go into the shopping center
I make a uturn and pull up opposite him when he parks
He gets out and I say, 'you gave up too soon'.
He smiled and said 'That is a fast and beautiful car'.
He said he had a 2012 Dodge but when the Hellcat came out, he had to have one.
I said be safe and took off.
With a big grin and an OMG OMG on my breath!

a car size of a bathtub with 700hp looks ugly.

If I had to go back in time would of changed the pistons to lower compression and installed the AMG S/C of the E55K could be in the mid 600hp.

The Kleemann setup is restrictive because of the high N/A compression pistons on our cars, cannot increase boost pressure.

There is nice, there is cool, there is wow, and then there is BADASS, the Hellcat is the top of the game. Personally I would prefer a Hellcat Charger. I had a 2006 Charger R/T from 2008 until last summer. It was very nice, quick, and the Hellcat would be double the HP. Worlds fastest production sedan for $60,000. I love my SLK, but I'd put a Challenger SRT8 up against just about anything, especially for the same price. Then add in the Hellcat, and HellYeah!

I know the AMG 55 is quick, real quick. I am surprised that my SLK350 is quicker than the Charger I had, and obviously feels like it handles better, mainly due to its small size. But it is hard to fight all that torque a big V8 makes, the 392 SRT8s (2012 and newer) have 470, no boost, just plain power. When I move on from the SLK, it will be for a 392 Charger or Challenger, as a step up.

at a certain point, more horsepower on street tires is well past the point of diminishing returns and into the land of negative returns

700hp without AWD would definitely be a handful to launch on the street for most drivers, I don't doubt that the hellcat lost a short 0-80 type run

What he said. It is tough to put down 700hp on street tires on dirty/sandy roads. Great job embarrassing the big Hades Kitty bro!

Our SLK55's do have a impressive launch for them to not have any more power than they do. On paper it looks like it would be no contest but in reality the 55 puts its power down well. My best buddy drove mine recently. His son has a supercharged Cobra that dyno's 575 at the wheels. I have driven that Cobra and it is the quickest street car I have driven. My buddy swears that the SLK55 would beat it on a short sprint like 0-60. Personally, I doubt that but it would be close.

We also have a mutual friend who owns a highly modded SS Camero with 700 supercharged ponies and a 150 shot of NOS. It has a hard time putting all that to the ground even at a drag strip where the pad has been treated to improve traction. Supercharging puts so much torque down low at the bottom of the rev range that it blows the tires away before it can get any speed built if you mat the go-pedal. Fun to do but not the fast way down range.

Last year at our charity arm-drop event, a fellow showed up with a Pontiac Solstice that had a LS7 (500hp) shoehorned into it. Looked great. Had a Tremec 6spd too. My slightly overboosted C32 AMG ran better times cause the light weight Solstice could not use all the power he had. It would spin thru all of 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Finally tried to hook in 4th but it was all over by then. Fun but slow.

It's possible he had the street key. Hell cats have two keys. One unleashes all 700 hp. The other limits it to about 400 if I recall correctly. While it's true it's a challenge to handle full power in one of these cars, it's not impossible. With a decent driver, a hellcat should beat the amg though if you look at zero to 60 times, not by a lot. It will kill the amg in the long smoky burnout competition though.

Even the street key has over 500hp, so the Hellcat is always more powerful than then "normal" SRT8 392s. They have 470ish hp and tq.
Yeah, the 0-60 is traction limited more than power to weight, but 60-90 (and above) oh dear lord, I can't imaging the feeling.
I had a 2006 Charger R/T 340hp 390 tq, and was always impressed by it. My current 2005 SLK350 with 270ish hp is definitely quicker, both on published data, and a couple local places I used to test my Charger. Obviously the weight plays a big part, but I feel the 7 speed really helps as well, I did not expect to like it as much as I do compared to the 5sp in the Charger (which was about as perfect as you can get an auto in a high torque car)
