Has anyone tried to DIY replace the clear part of it? Mine is hazed and scratched.
Just a suggestion: a reputable headlamp restoration place may be able to polish off the haze and then coat with a non-yellowing clear coat, just like restoring hazed headlamps.

Mine is marked "Lexan MR5E". Isn't Lexan just a brand name for polycarbonate (which is the same material our headlamp covers are made from?)

I think there may be some proprietary UV-blocking coating on Lexan sheets like these.

That is the official name. Made specifically for R171.

It looks like this

minus the AMG decal ($12)

Every time someone asks about wind blockers for the R171, I have to go looking for pics and instructions, etc. So I made this thread.

2004/5..original price $810. Now on ebay about $450 or if a member sells theirs, maybe $300

Part number: A1718600174 B67812227

Install instructions attached

Bloody heck I have one of those fitted to mine - no idea they were that much - I'm used to the fabric ones which I like because at night you don't need to dip the interior mirror!!!

Yes, Lexan. According to your link: "I’ve never found a product that will restore damaged Lexan back to LIKE NEW." Ah well. Maybe I'll try to figure out a DIY.

Here's how mine looks held up to a light.

Hmm - I wonder what the difference between "lexan fmr5e" and "lexan mr5e" might be. If you have any nearby fabrication shops, remove the lexan part and take it in to discuss your options - maybe they can duplicate it?

I have an original MB Windbreak on mine that was supplied new with the car, but by the time it came round to me the triangular roll bar fittings have gone missing. I don't suppose anyone has a pair lying around?😊
