Can anyone please tell me what OBD2 protocol are used on my 2001 SLK320?

I have a reader and this is the first time it has not worked on a car I use it on RE:Jags, BMW, Audi A4, Fords, GM's, the list goes on so just wondering why it will not read my MB.

That's quite strange as my OBD2 book states that it will read ISO-9141, ISO-14230(KWP2000) among others so it should work Ok. If I use my ScanXL Pro it works great but not much room in the car to carry a laptop with me just in case I have a problem.

I wonder if it's just the ISO that's not working right on the hand reader. I also have the Carsoft 7.4 S MB installed on my laptop but it requires a Multiplexer or something like that to be able to work. I see them on ebay for around $90 CDN but wonder how good the CarSoft really is, is it worth the money to buy the Multiplexer or not.

Any thoughts?

A hand reader is just that, it reads the codes stored in the ECU, CarSoft and similar programs let you get in much deeper in the system (read manufacture specific codes where the hand reader only reads OBD2 codes).
CarSoft will further more let you "program" components in your car system and do some guided trouble shooting. (short explanation).
