Having just joined this forum and can't help noticing the USA contingent I thought I may get some advice and ask for advice on the following itinerary:

I have been looking at doing a fall road trip with my wife. We are just into our early 60's, reasonably fit and enjoy walking (not too strenuous) and history. We are thinking of visiting at the end of September 2020 and avoiding Labor Day. We will be spending around 14 or 15 nights landing and staying in Boston for about 3 nights.

We intend picking a car up on the last morning.

I have a rough route planned and obviously we would hope to see the fall colors and also some of the covered bridges.

I have a rough circular route planned and would like some opinions of places to stay but have also included Acadia.

The route is here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Boston,+Massachusetts,+USA/Williamstown,+MA,+USA/Stowe,+Vermont+05672,+USA/White+Mountains,+Lincoln,+NH+03251,+USA/NH-112,+New+Hampshire,+USA/Bar+Harbor,+Maine,+USA/Boston,+Massachusetts,+USA/@43.2234698,-73.8109327,7.25z/data=!4m44!4m43!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e3652d0d3d311b:0x787cbf240162e8a0!2m2!1d-71.0588801!2d42.3600825!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e0b111fa562f95:0x444616296f5399df!2m2!1d-73.2036898!2d42.7120196!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cb591352b365ed5:0x26c5ba3745132901!2m2!1d-72.6874023!2d44.4654332!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cb3f46d4240c90f:0xfca2c69d2225c8ac!2m2!1d-71.4325573!2d44.1643804!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cb37f0eba04b267:0xe9d8868f1bda13d8!2m2!1d-71.566737!2d44.0505797!1m5!1m1!1s0x4caebe4815802593:0x88e91a6528cad91b!2m2!1d-68.2039123!2d44.3876119!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e3652d0d3d311b:0x787cbf240162e8a0!2m2!1d-71.0588801!2d42.3600825!3e0?hl=en

Observations and suggestions very welcome including suggestions for hotels and where to stay

Fall Trip 2014

We did a similar trip in 2014. We were there in mid October, and the timing for the changing colours of the trees is pretty critical (and different and un-predicable each year).

Flew into Boston for a few days. We stayed in Portland with a trip out to Peaks Island which was well worth it.

To me a 'must do' is a drive up Mount Washington. The views are spectacular.

We also stayed in New Hampshire and Vermont, and I would say that the tress and views in the White Mountains are better than the Green Mountains.

We finished up in Rockport which was very nice, before flying back out of Boston.
