Hi all

thought I would write a few lines to introduce myself and thank the mods for allowing me to join

I am hoping to buy an r171 280 in the near future, so I'm sure I'll pickup some tips on what to look for and common faults to be aware of and avoid. I have had a quick look online and it seems that post 2008 models are the ones to go for due to a few problems with timing chains. Anyway any advise will be appreciated.

I have been into Toyota Mr2's for years and my current daily driver is a mk3 Roadster. I also own a mint Mk1 which is a bit of a garage queen having only done 10k miles.

I live in South Devon

Hi Neil, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

First please update your profile with your location (e.g. SOuth Devon") and vehicle year and model (put something like "Looking for R171 SLK280" for now), if you haven’t already done so, as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
Follow this to update: ‘User CP’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’ (and then click ‘SAVE CHANGES’ button at the bottom of the page). Info in your garage does not update your profile.

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there!

There is a summary post that I maintain for our UK meets here. Links to examples and pictures from last year's meets are available here. We're a friendly group, and always happy to welcome new members at any of our meets.

We're also plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map - Please let me know if you'd like to be added to the map. :tu:

Some great R171 info, including Owner’s/Maintenance/COMAND manuals, etc.:

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
  • Post your VIN (or VIN of a car you're looking at) in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on the car).
FREE!! How to get a free data card!
  • If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
  • If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM (although you can send PMs to admins and moderators straight away).
  • Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If iPhone/iPad pics, you can only attach 1 pic per post this way as iOS names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
  • Want to 'like' or 'thank' someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any individual’s post that you like. This saves you having to comment.
  • New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link in the info bar towards the top of the screen is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
  • Also vote or enter our Ride of the Month competition: ROTM Submissions & Voting - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum
  • Want to share your real name with us (or check for someone else’s), then post it here: A 'Who's Who' in SLKWorld.com
  • Finally, the Picture of the Day section is guaranteed to have something to make you smile each weekday morning!
Thank you
Dave

Hi Neil,

Welcome from Wirral, England.

========================================================

First please update your location and vehicle
(Put Looking!)(year?: 1996-2017, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55)
in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
This takes about 30 seconds to do.

Follow exactly to update:
‘Usercp’ at the top of page,
then ‘edit your details’ on the left side,
‘additional information’ near the bottom,
edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’.
Info in your garage does not update your profile.

The reason that we ask you to update vehicle/location details
is to save repeating the same information every time that you ask a question.

Also, this site is truly worldwide. That can matter when you ask for help and information.

Are you looking for a bonnet, or a hood, a boot, or a trunk? Makes a difference.

Driving on the left, or the right?

========================================================

We have a free to enter monthly competition.
Entry is normally open from the 1st to the 15th of every month. You simply post a reply with 3 photos.

Hi From the Midlands, there is plenty of good advice on the forum. My wife has had her 280 for 4yrs and has had no issues so far, except for a window module that got wet in a storm.

Welcome from Northamptonshire.

This is a great site for prospective owners, as well as actual owners.

There are many on here who will be happy to offer advice on the cars you are looking at.

Check out our UK Members Meet Calendar, and the UK members location map - links have been posted already I think, and jolly useful they are too.

Remember: 'Search is your friend'.
