Hi friends.

I have leased a 2013 Nissan Leaf for two years, now, and I am on my homeward run of the lease. For those who may be interested, having a 100% electric car is not all I dreamed it to be. I feel constrained by the mileage limitations and do not have the patience to seek re-charging spots as they exist only intermittently along this rather sparsely populated area of FL where I live: the Space Coast.

I intend to buy a 2009 SLK (or possibly CLK). What do I seek in this fine car that I will get? It must be reliable, handle nicely, be fun to drive, and it must last a long, long time.

So I'm up for conversation. I am excited to be in this search for information and the car of my future.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Welcome from Washington, DC.

I've only had my SLK since January but so far it has been flawless. I love everything about it, most notably the performance and comfort. It's sporty but not punishing and nothing beats the one button retractable hardtop.

Welcome to the Forum from the South of England.
Cob Star,

It is so nice of you to welcome me. I am a complete newbie. I am still figuring out what I am looking to buy but I believe it is a 2009 SLK. I'm glad there is such a community here. Thanks again.

Oh, a little more from me, Bee, for you all to get to know me better. I am educating myself with the initial idea of purchasing a 2009 SLK. The reason I think that year may be best for me is because I do want to have iPhone 4S calls in bluetooth and listen to bluetooth music off the phone integrated into the car's system. Today I heard that non-fiber-optic <correct term surely missing here—> systems are the way to go for the smoothest way to have the full bluetooth integration I require. Which years have this? (When I glanced at the bluetooth posts here I quickly saw how detailed and nearly endless they were and I backed away...)

I don't know for sure, but I am expecting 2009 is the earliest good year to do this bluetooth setup well... What do you think?

As I don't have the finances to get a great newish SLK — to some degree the older the better for me! Automobile technology is far, far over my head. So once again it is my intention to soon enough climb into my future SLK, put my iPhone down, and expect calls come in through the car plus be able to play music in the same manner.

I'm in Florida. Another initial preference I have is that when I get my car I believe I will prefer a light–colored interior because it gets so hot here especially in the Summertime...

I tend to think I would be happiest in a hard top with moonroof. Any thoughts about soft versus hard-tops on the SLK?

I was asking it only indirectly. I am <i>relieved</> that there are no soft top SLKs. I don't want one anyway because I just would rather the security of a hard top.

Are the hard tops all machine–retractable, by the way?

The blue tooth phone capability: I am glad it has this. Maybe there is another way I can do the music. Is there a radio jack input so one can physically plug an iPhone or iPad into the dash, I wonder?
