We are planning a road trip this weekend, Jan 2-3. Going to pass thru Eastern, KY to see some friends on Sat morning for breakfast, and then spend the afternoon cruising the backroads from Prestonsburg, to Pikeville, KY and then on to Norton, VA. The weather report is sunny, partly cloudy and cooler with highs in the 30's & 40's. Not TD weather but at least it is not raining or snowing.

Our ultimate destination is the Martha Washington Inn, located in Abingdon, VA. They have a beautiful, elegant old Inn with a full spa. Plus Abingdon is a culinary gem. New Year's resolution? To be more decadent?, lol.

VA trip report

We made our road trip to Abingdon, VA last weekend. Glorious weather for January but not quite warm enough for top-down. 1st stop was Wayland, KY for Breakfast and officers installation at the James Alley Masonic Lodge. All the Grand Chapter officers were in attendance. The new WM is an old friend and we were there to support him. Then on to VA.

The Martha was exquisite. An old school Grand Hotel. We had planned to go to a resturant which we had found last year called "Rain". One of the best I have ever been to anywhere. But, we were disappointed to learn that Rain and all the other good resturants in town (both of them) were closed for the winter. [email protected]#$%$

Had cocktail down stairs in the bar and then ended up watching UK play basketball at a local sportsbar. Still overall the trip was great. As we were arriving in Abingdon, I spotted a Black SLK350 which we pulled alongside of. I think the driver waved but he turned right onto another road and I did not get a good look. If you are on this forum, say "Hi".

On the way home we stopped in Pikeville to have lunch with a couple we are friends with. Good to see them. Sorry but I failed to take any meaningful pics.

Winter appears to be setting in for a while, so I may not be driving the Benz much this month.
