Hello to everyone. I just bought my slk 320 sport edition from my best friend. it was her graduation gift and she never really liked it so she kept it in her garage for a long time. the car has 17,xxx miles. I just recieved it today and ive already noticed some stuff on the car that are concerning.

1, I went to open the trunk, and the hydraulics don't work so i have to hold it up to keep it open. (mind you it's a very heavy trunk), then when i went to shut the trunk, it didn't latch. i tried everything to close it and it didn't work. so i just left it like that,

2,the top won't open due to the fact that the trunk won't close.

3, i noticed some noises while the vehicle was idling. like a clicking noise. should i be concerned?

4, the cassette dock won't open (not that i have any cassettes, but i would still like a functioning cassetteplayer)

5,I pressed the head light wash button and it made a very loud noise, then as i leave the vehicle there is a huge puddle of water, and it's leaking from the drivers side behind the tail light.

6, when i start the ignition, it takes a long time to actually start. sometime it does it right away but sometimes ill have the turn the key again in order for the vehicle to start.

now i brought all of these concerns to her attention and she said she would be taking the vehicle back to get it checked out. mind you she had just delivered the vehicle to me from getting the headliner replaced, new bettery and the retractable top hydraulics replaced as well. did i make a good buy or should i just back out now? thank you guys!

Welcome to the forum.

None of those items in your list sound really serious and, with the help of the forum should be resolvable by a capable DIY'r. Most sound like they are just the result of the lack of use of the car.

I'd post each of the issues you have as separate threads on the R170 General Discussion forum and see what responses you get.

Good luck!

Quite a list.
Have a trawl through the diy threads as I am sure most, if not all, is covered there.
Link in my signature below.

If that fails, then the suggestion of separate threads for each issue is the best starting place.
This gives member a chance to ask questions which will help them diagnose the problem more precisely.
Then, a solution can be suggested.

Remember, the car is 14 years old and not regularly used.

Another heads up tip.
SLKs do not like standing.
A new, fully charged battery can lose power on just three weeks standing.
The roof likes a bit of tlc every now and then.

Don't lose heart.
Once sorted you will be smiling every trip. :tu:
