Hi everyone, I recently purchased my first MB, a sweet little 1999 SLK230 with only 29,000 miles on it (Car Fax verified). It has a few repairs needed, but in general, it's in great shape. Thankfully, I'm a DIY mechanic/engineer who grew up with auto industry background but now working as a semiconductor engineer.

I look forward to 'Virtually" meeting everyone! I've already used the forums to data mine for information I couldn't easily get out of AllDataDIY.

Billy,

Welcome to the World’s Premier Mercedes-Benz SLK Community from Valrico, Florida!

Please update your location/vehicle (model and year) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
‘Usercp’ at the top left of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’.

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
In addition, if you haven’t, please post your question in the appropriate discussion forum for a quicker response. Be patient and a knowledgeable member or guest will address your question.
If you wish to PM (Private Message) someone, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.

Thank you,
Jeff

Hiya BillyBenz and welcome from Lichfield.

I'd love to see some of your repair projects if you have time to relate them to us here? I for one really enjoy them and they even inspire me to 'have a go' ;)

Thanks Everyone

Thanks to all who provided greetings! I'm loving the SLK230 thus far, much to my wife's dismay.....LOL....Hey, if I can't get a word in edgewise, then she can't get a turn at the accelerator!

Just had some needed repair work done - Oil change (Mobil1 0W-40), shift rod linkage bushing, oil level sensor and differential shaft seal replacement, and a few more items I'll tackle myself (Read & side view autodim failure, window regulator replacement, for example). I'm a Senior Engineer with IBM, and a former equipment engineer who rebuilt his first Chevy 350 small block at age 16 on his own.....Yeah, I'm gonna love this car!

Next I'm scheduled to get all the fluids changed (coolant, brake fluid and transmission) as I'm pretty sure they haven't been done in the 12 years since "birth"......I'll change the plugs myself and plan a swap of headlights to aftermarket with "Angel Eyes" and projector headlights.....

BTW, if nobody is aware, AllDataDIY.com has the manuals online for these cars, including all the TSB's. I already had subscriptions for my other cars, and added a 5 year subscription for this for $30!.....Between the forums and the on line manual, I'm well informed......

We'll be talking more, I'm sure!......
