that's a lot of mileage. If they have all the maintenance history, it might be ok

Indeed. I thought of asking for some opinion before even calling for a test drive.

BTW, will update my profile once I'm back on a desktop. Can't seems to be able to change it on my mobile.

Thanks.

I had to convert it to kms in my head and its about 265K kms. The engine would need to have been maintained excellently to even consider it but keep in mind that at about 300K kms even the best engine and transmission starts to show signs of wear and tear and will likely need replacement if you want to avoid surprise breakdowns. For the money they are asking I would see if you can find one with lower mileage.

Welcome from Madrid....

It's quite high mileage, but the price is pretty good. Check out the service history and what's been changed and when. There's a guy on the Spanish forum I'm on with a 1996 r170 with 565,000kms who's had no real trouble with his car, you never know...

There are a lot of R170's and fewer R171's about at this price range. The R171's shown all have higher mileage even than the R170's (lots of the R170's have between 50 and 80k on the clock. Just watch out for the rust on the wheel arches!).

If you've not driven any try arranging that first to see how you like the ride and handling. That may help you decide what you want.

Good luck! And welcome to the forum from Surrey, by the way.

Thanks from Kent :) might have to drive it first but the dealer isn't really near to where I live.

When I was looking I found three or four suitable candidates in north and south Kent and test drove them all. Don't forget, if you're just testing the car you can look outside your budget - you just have to convince the seller you're interested but that you've some more to try in a bit so you'll let him know!!

Be warned though. once you find one you want act sharpish. Good ones tend to go quick (as I found out!)

That is a lot of mileage! You might want to consider taking it to a MB shop and have them do a once over on it if the owner will let you.

I know it's tough when you are on a strict budget, but with that mileage it seems like an all year round car.....would definitely be too much for my liking regardless of service history. Patience is a virtue....might be worth waiting a few months.:|

Just my two cents worth
