Hi bought a new SLK, the dealer told me that Auto wipers came as standard as did the car I traded in.... well guess what they do not. I asked them to fit it to the car, they say it cannot be done. I do not believe that this is correct any advise?

Thanks, I think it will be just a SW update but not sure.
Hi and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

I think that @Seanhump retro-fitted auto-wipers to his R171, but I guess it's possible that things might be different for the R172... although I suspect the dealer may be saying no because they don't want to go to the trouble and expense of retro-fitting them. I'm sure others with more knowledge than I have will chime in soon...
Thanks, I think it will be just a SW update but not sure.
For the R171, I think it needs the rain sensor adding first... although I expect that Sean will respond to my previous post, once he's next online (I tagged him so that he notices it). :D
new member has r172 so i figured they all came with it and either not programmed
I have asked the dealer to verify, I will get back to you.
datacard is free from me!
Evening and welcome

I'll check EPC (the parts catalog) tomorrow and let you know if it's a similar system to the R171 (and I'd hazard a guess it probably is...)

If so, a new sensor is needed in the rear view mirror, and a little coding needs doing to tell the car it's there - neither of which are difficult to do with the right tools, but a main dealer will shy away from it for sure.

I'll confirm....
Hi, welcome from Barrhead, Scotland.
Hmm - looks like the rain and light sensor is one unit as per the R171, and may or may not be fitted (if not, you'll just have the light sensor by the looks of things)

As per the R171, it's installed behind the rear view mirror

Your datacard will confirm.... code 345 is both rain & light, with out code 345 is light only
