I have put down a deposit on a 2017 Polar White SLC 43 AMG. The car was registered at the end of March and has been sold as an ex demonstrator. It has a massive 37 miles on the clock at present and is sitting unloved at Mercedes up norf . I have to wait until the car is 90 days old before it can be released which will be at the end of June 2017.

It has a massive spec being a demonstrator and, had a nice big saving compared to a new configured car. It has every option I would have added if buying totally new so it was a no brainer to go for it. I also get to save the registration costs, just the tax to put the wheels on the road when it transfers over to me. Due to the value and spec, the staff cannot use the car when its not being test driven hence the very low mileage

Options included are comand online (see Jeff, spelt correctly), night package, airguide and the panoramic roof for sky even with the top up.

I cannot wait for the end of June when I get to pick up the car and, I have a nice 200 mile return trip in my new car >:D

Plus, thanks to this wonderful forum, I am up to speed on the oil change for the LSD

I will wait until I have paperwork . All done and deposit paid over the phone so far. They said it would come straight off the Mercedes Approved Used website once it was processed and, it now says the car is not available when you try to open the sales listing. Still waiting on the formal documents via email which I am told I will have tomorrow.

Distance buying is also so good with modern technology. Videos were available of the car and I am assured it will be mechanic checked, fully valeted and totally as new when it is ready for collection.

Nice one Pres !

Almost identical spec to mine, only difference is the night package.

They are a very rare beast and do get a lot of attention especially when changing down in sport +.

Enjoy when you get it!

Nice, good choice

I don't do black cars although I love the look of them and, have had greys/silvers for my last three cars. Always fancied a white car so, Polar white it was.

I do have a question about Comand you might be able to help with as, I cant find the answer online and, the salesman is more interested in sales than features LOL. Does the navigation have camera alerts? The Becker I have in my A250 has them as an add on that I pay for annually and beeps if Im over the limit (lapse in judgement only 0:)) approaching a camera regardless of what the stereo is doing at the time. I feel with a SLC43, there might be a high need for an alert system  to cameras in the distance hidden behind trees dressed as post boxes LOL.

The Becker handles them like POI's and I know the Comand has road sign recognition so, it would know everything it needed apart from the cameras location.

Your advice/answer would be appreciated

Many congrats Pres, I'm jealous!

Don't be jealous mate. You have a stunning car (rare the R171 in white) and, none of us are too far from a dealers . There are not many for sale used in the UK. Suppose it will increase when the leases run out in due course. There was 6 SLC43's on auto trader and about 11 on the official MB used car search. Mainly 200's & 250's which is probably the sensible choice being honest LOL.

The comand does not have camera alerts as standard which considering the price is quite poor.

It would certainly be a good add on if in areas you are not familiar with. Not that Mercedes drivers ever exceed the speed limit!!

You do get Mercedes Me and Apple play with the comand unit. Mercedes Me is useful but I wouldn't go out and pay extra for it.
Apple play is of no interest to me as I do not have an IPhone.

The SLC 43 is a rare car! I have been working part time in retirement for Mercedes Cheshire Oaks for the last couple of months and I have not seen one!
When they have an enquiry they ask can they look at mine!

Drove a new SLC 250d the other day with 750 miles on the clock, first thing I did was check the MPG since reset at 725 miles. It showed 34mpg.

I am showing 25.9 mpg since new ( 2000 miles ) I would be disappointed if I had bought the diesel for economy!
Also no Pano roof and it felt claustrophobic.

Where up North are you getting it from?

Cheers

Well done & sounds a good buy with lots of optional extra's...!! :tu:

Shame it's not a bit closer to home, other wise You could take it on extended test drives on sunny weekends between now & the end of June..!!!

I think with mpg it needs to be checked over a longer period of time.
My 250d has done 1250 miles 900 of that on long motorway trips in 'comfort' mode, the computer is showing 48.9 mpg overall.
If I drive short trips in 'Sport' mode then I am looking at around 35 mpg.

I'm presuming the SLC 43 uses the same Garmin sat nav system as mine and I need to install speed camera info as well so be interested to hear what other folks have done.

Thanks for the update on the Comand, most appreciated  Apple play is a good thing for me as an iPhone user. Looking forward to that integration with the phone and the car.

It is at Mercedes Benz Huddersfield on Leeds Road. They seem OK although the sales guy does not have the urgency in responding to requests that I would like. Have to try and remember to him it is a job and my car is one of many he is dealing with whereas for me, its the most important thing in the world LOL. That said, he has done everything asked of him. Also, he knows I live 200 miles away and, after sale services will not done there so he has no need to assure future business .

It will also be nice to get a decent drive home after collection.

That would be good . I cannot argue with the deal I have got. To spec it new with the same extras is £49k on Mercedes car configurator. OK, there would be some sort of dealer contribution buying new new but, I doubt 20% of the value. I have purchased for £39k. Happy to save £10k for the 37 miles on the clock and one previous owner being the dealer. OK, the miles may increase before I get it and it will be 90 days old before it is released but worth every penny of that saving. Stratstone Mercedes are doing a big ex demonstrator sale at the moment and there are a couple in the UK with similar savings in Plymouth/Exeter but they were in black and never had Comand.

When I said I hope staff don't thrash it about too much when they take it home for weekends, he said the 37 miles on the clock show they don't get to take it home. He said he would love to but there are restrictions on what they can take home (company car tax reasons) and all the performance cars stay at the dealers. Best he can get for the weekend is to 200/250's if the sun is going to be out.

Nit time: The correct name of the feature is Car Play ... I was documenting that a year and some before it was released and can't recall how many times I had to change the name in the docs.

It's obviously not relevant if you don't have an iPhone, but dang it works great when you do. I had my car's sound system upgraded and the Alpine head I chose basically uses Car Play for everything other than the AM/FM radio. It works a treat! :D

Anticipation can be part of the fun.
I'm curious as to what constitutes a well specified car.
Most don't have:
The analogue dash clock
An up-grade to the Harman Kardon sound system.
Mirrors that fold electrically - not just heated electrically .
An alternative to the standard silver effect cabin trim on console etc.
Independent heating/air conditioning control for passenger & driver.
Pearlescent or at the very least metallic paint. Solid colours look as though money had to be saved.
Parking sensors.

Without these fittings I would consider a car as 'standard' & Command & Airscarf should be considered essential & not much lauded options.

An effective demonstrator should have every option in the book so that a salespersons can use it as a tool to persuade customers to spend extra on up-grading.

Bogo-basic 200 models don't even have electric folding mirrors which even the most basic boring shopping saloon is so equipped these days.

Interesting post oldmercman.
Can’t see the point of an analogue clock when the time is displayed in the screen between the rev counter and speedo.
Again can’t see the point in upgrading the sound system, it’s a car with road noise and all the other noise drawbacks of a car, but hey each to his own.
I agree on mirrors I always specify folding mirrors, I have a feeling about parking somewhere dubious that some drunken moron will kick them off. Quite irrational I'm sure but hey we all have our foibles!
I found the standard trim a bit too bright so went for the darker option which looks great.
Mostly drive on my own so not fussed about dual heating systems.
Black and white are b*ggers to keep clean so went for a metallic.
Parking sensors, well went for the reversing camera which is a little confusing I agree.
You don't mention the satnav which I went for as it’s so nice having it on the dash but TBH it works well but lacks speed cameras and disappears when you fiddle with the radio or sound system. Don’t think I would bother with sat nav again, stick to a cheaper and more effective separate option.
Just my two pence!
Cheers, David

I put the HK Sound system in my A250. I would not bother in a 2 seater roadster. Firstly, I am hoping the soundtrack in sport+ is more enjoyable to listen to lol and, whilst 11 speakers in a 4 seat car spreads the sound, you only really need stereo in an enclosed coupe. Also, it is rare I use the additional wattage the HK outputs.

I have gone Polar white as, I have had a white itch for a few years now. I have Mountain Grey on the A250 and the metallic really sparkles in the sun. If it's overcast, it's just dark silver. The first thing that will happen to my car will be handing the keys to my professional detailer I use and will be ceramic coated. Just a hose and a wipe over with a drying car will have it pop for three years.

I personally don't like stick on sat nags (deliberate not typo lol). Most of the time I really need a nav device in when I need to re-route due to traffic. At that point, I'm not fiddling with sticking a device on the screen. I want to tap a button and have a map in front of me and, with Comand, just shout at it (probably several times as it won't understand me ) and, avoid by driving away from the hold up when possible or before with traffic updates. It also doesn't need to be removed every time you stop to avoid a raggamuffin breaking your window for a £50.00 sell on if you leave it up o screen whilst you park just for a toilet break.

Most items (airscarf, heated seats, folding mirrors, reversing camera and parktronic on the SLC 43 is standard in the UK tbh. They are well specced off the peg so to speak

I also like the night package as, it removes chrome which I don't like personally. Its not over blingy with chrome on the SLC but my A class without the night pack had it all along below the windows. Turning that gloss black was a god send

Whilst parked outside my house recently, some moron went up the entire road attacking the mirrors on every car and, did both my SLK and A250. Both were folded in at the time and the A class is electric folding. They just pulled it out and battered it.

Cost me two new main brackets with the dealers as none were available used. Luckily, they never damaged the coloured housing or the glass or my already high bill would have been through the roof and, I was able to fit them both myself saving hundreds in labour.

Even with folding, they can still get damaged but, you do save the time in walking the car to push them in and, getting back out EVERY time to pull them out afterwards when you forget LOL.
