So I decided that my new car would be an '05 SLK 55
I purchased it this week and its going to meet me in San Diego in a week or so.
Just wanted to say Hi and accept any new owner advice or warnings.

TIA

Kjax, congratulations from SoCal. If you need help on installing the SmartTop just give a holler. We like to see pix of the "baby".

Thanks folks, the SmartTop has moved to the top of list.
Has anyone had experience with converting the the phone system to Blue Tooth? The idea of a set of useless buttons on the the dash makes me ill. My research found this
http://www.incartronics.com/

Just curious if anyone has used this or anything like it.

Yes i Seconded the MODS4CARS as a first mod. The cheapest place to get a hold of one is Elitepro1.com. I have been more then pleased with Elite pro since buying the Smart Top, i have bought a few other mods from them and they never seem to impress me. Diffidently more them recommend them, for anything you need for your car!

Countdown

I fly out to SoCal on Thursday and my new (to me) SLK 55 is delivered on Saturday!
My east coast car is a Turbo Charged Miata, this should be an interesting contrast.
I'll spend a few minutes going over the bits and pieces before lighting up the tires! (not really)
Any suggestions on greeting the new beast?

Congratulations kjax. Make sure all the electronic gadgets work and listen for "cat's cry" in the engine compartment when the engine is fired up (to make sure there's no idler pulley problem, not common in the 55).

Hours away..

In a mere 3 hours or so a carrier arrives with my SLK!!! Trying to contain myself and keep busy until then, just thought Id be a nudge and post a pointless countdown to light up post!

:) I had to fly for 10 hours to see mine the first time, so I know the feeling of anticipation. My wife was *so* ready for me to leave as I was evidently "bouncing off the walls" :)

.. so ya see.. what had happen was...

I had every intention of taking pics of the delivery, I reached the lot to meet the delivery truck (big car carrier needed space to maneuver) the car was already off of the truck and I was momentarily disappointed... then I got a good look at the dust covered beast... I kept saying to myself "self... take pics" but all I could do was think about the keys.... the delivery guy was walking me through all the little rubs and scratches he had noted on pick up, it was all so minor and all I could think of were the BLOODY KEYS!
Finally he hands them over I start her up and I'm swooning... my fiance is smiling and I'm just stunned! Top goes down... bag in trunk and we're off... I drop her at her hair appointment and I'm off to the hand car wash... and I'm saying to myself..."self take pics!!" Yeah as soon as the guys bring it around shiny, clean and polished, I'll take pics... "sir your keys" "thanks looks great!" (take pics....) nahhhh got to drive, got to drive!!! and I did for about an hour and a half, got the call to pick up the fiance, swung through, slowed enough for her to jump in and off again! Man this ride ROCKS!
I love my Miata it's a great sleeper once that beast spools up and gets going it is awesome, but the refinement and civility of the SLK is unrivaled, at 120 I'm thinking of Croissants and Jam, thats just wrong... so forgive me folks I do promise that once the serotonin levels find their way back to some semblance of normal I will post pics.... until then... "I am therefore I ride!"

kjax,

It IS a great ride, isn't it? :) Glad you are enjoying it as most of us are. I just went on a 5000 mile trip followed by another about 3000 mile trip. And I want more.

Sounds like a great cocktail mix of serotonin and norepinephrine :D

haha.

I assume you're driving with the top-down. That exhaust note is something isn't it! Although it can be dangerous, I scared my niece with it today. :(

Enjoy it bro and enjoy the weather down there too!!!
