Hello all, I have bee lurking for a few weeks on this site and decided to join due the abundance of information you all seem to have. I recently purchased a 2005 SLK 350 that needed a little bit of tlc and have since made minor repairs such as Break-pads, Rotors,Oil, Filter, and Thermostat. Now The Car runs perfect engine wise. But I have one last project to tackle and that is the Radio... yes.. this radio and this fancy fiber-optic hookup didn't work when i bought the car. And its rather expensive to swap it out it seems. So far I have bought a loop to see if maybe something is wrong with the fiber optics but it seems fine. The radio it self powers on kinda? It flashes with a line across the screen for like 10 seconds then shuts back off. Ill see if i can attach a video of what it does.

here is another issue. previous owner might have put drinks in the cupholders located over the Comand radio

http://www.slkworld.com/slk-r171-ge...t-put-drinks-cupholder-over-comand-audio.html
Very possible, the reset still didn't fix the issue. It was off for a good hour or so. I didn't see any drink residue within the radio. I posted that link up farther that had pictures of the radio taken apart. Just flashes (which i could live with if it turned on actually.) and seems to be like a fault in the system. I have heard of the Mercedes radio flashing the Mercedes logo for like 10 seconds if the MOST system is not connected or "looped" properly. Thats why i bought a little loop that caps off the fiber optic connections to the 6disk cd changer or NAV system. But i tested it with those capped off and after the car has been locked for 10 minutes(that is key for the most loop to turn off)

Are the Harmon Kardon speakers any good? If they are i might just buy an amp and wire up a few of them and forget this radio... My nexus 7 would fit there nicely.

My SLK 350 has the premium package and the entertainment package with nav. Which has the hk speakers. (also they say HK on the speaker grill and there is 11 I can count) I have yet to hear them at all because i bought it without the radio functioning. Is there a way to test the amp or somehow directly connect up to the amp? I will bypass the radio if i can. Because i would like to use google auto.
