Central Locking Issue.

Hi Guys thanks for the welcome.

I have a 2008 SLK 280 facelift middle fitted with all the extras Harmon Kardon audio etc... which I have owned for just over 2 years and I absolutely love it.

43,000 miles on the clock and it just started acting up a bit.

Went out in it the other day and when I got home I had no central locking straight out of the blue.

These forums were a great help and I would like to thank all the members for posting and making life a lot easier for all of those like me, who like to have a go...

Anyway looking through the forums they lead me to check the fuse in the rear SAM. F8, which confirmed that it had blown. Put another 5A fuse in and it blue straight away. Back to the forums, was it the RF amplifier, PSE pump or another thread which led me to the alarm siren.

Removed car battery, disconnected the siren module and voila, F8 goes in doesn't blow and central locking now functioning again, alarm LED blinking on dash, but obviously no siren.

It seems that the NiMH battery in the siren deteriorates over the 11 years and is non replaceable, although some members have attempted opening the casing. I have decided against the used option from eBay as I could be facing the same problem in the not to distant future.

Going to contact the local MB Dealer today and expecting around the £120 mark ouch.

But can't see the point in manufacturing something containing a battery which will need replacing at some point which is non replaceable.

Anyway fairly easy fix with a massive help from the forum.

I'll try and post quote from Mercedes in next couple of days.

Also when I bought the car the Nav maps had never been updated and I couldn't update to the latest as the software in the NTG2.5 unit had never been updated. MB updated the software and maps for £110 which I thought a good price as the DVD was more than that to buy on the internet.

Many thx.

One sentence for the guys in america - Thx for Leo fender - I Do love Strats more than my SLK.
