Welcome from North Hampshire - Good model choice!

Having always had a manual cars, I've been pleased with the 7G box on My R171 350 - But being a 2010 model, it come with flappy paddles as standard. These do get used now & again, but mainly just hit the "S" button >:D

Hi and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

7G gearbox isn't quite as quick to change as some other manufacturers, but it really isn't a problem. If you do decide to try to find a manual R171 SLK 350, then good luck, as they're really quite rare... those that do have them say great things about them though (it's been discussed on this forum many times before). If you're happy with auto gearboxes in general, then you'll be happy with the 7G 'box... and if it has steering wheel buttons instead of paddles, there are ways to change that later too. :D

thanks guys. i'm not after mental quick, i have that now and its a pain in the back.... literally!
loving the 55 amg, but out of my range.
i wanted something that was no slouch, roof off, and great soundtrack coming from the back end. didnt want an m3, my missus has one, ruled out the tt (turbo cars will suck all my money away on tuning.... more power...MORE POWER...)
the slk 350 seems to be my choice, and good value at the moment.
only ever had one auto boxed car, that was years and years ago a peugeot 605 3ltr v6 auto..... HATED it with a pashion, drank the juice like an room full of alchies at a wine tasting, had it 3 weeks and swapped it..
current car, and my daily drive, is a vx220 turbo stage 4, massive power to weight 411lb/ft/tonne,0-60mph comes up in about 3 seconds, but you need to have the suppleness of a circus contortionist to get in and out, and its horrible in the winter, fantastic in the summer, and i've had enough after 5 years..
so, a quick comfy 350 it is..
not planning too many mods (he says) exhaust, lower it a bit, change the wheels, do they respond to any induction changes? maybe a lighter flywheel.
can you put sat nav in if it hasnt already got it, retro fit kinda thing?

Welcome! This forum has tons of helpful info, don't know what I would do without it!
Welcome from the East Midlands

Hi from Nottingham.
Fast driving with auto is no problem. Lunatic driving will show a slowish gear change.
As Dave said Paddles can be added, zero zero on here.
Overall the gearbox performance is great for me.
Just check everything works when you buy one.
No regrets here:grin:
