I just joined the forum. I have bought a 2000 mercedes-Benz slk 230 compresser sport a couple months ago with 100k miles. Looked great when I bought it but not good mechanicaly. I like to restore rare cars and have this one running great now but one big issue that came up. The battery went bad and convertible stopped working. Thought it was the bad battery causing it. Got new battery in and still does not work. I just had it all torn apart and lubed everything with white lithium. It was working when no paneling was in. Then I put it back together and now it's doing it again. It's not catching on any of the paneling or anything I checked all that. There are no leaks anywhere in the lines or cylinders. Fluid is on the low line and ordered it about a week and a half ago but still waiting. I'm going to try to top off then see what happens. If anyone has any ideas please let me know

What happens is when I start to put the top down the trunk will open then the top will either pop back a little then slam back down or it will just keep pumping and nothing happens. Then the trunk will not go back down and have to do it manually. It tries for one sec then shuts off with no flashing. When closing the roof after it opens the roof will get about 75% closed then stop and the light will flash. If I give it a little push when it's opening it will open fine and sometimes (rarely) it will go on its own. It has all the 1999 model technology in it.

Any response will be greatly appreciated. I love the car and tired of it just sitting in the garage all summer

Welcome to the elite SLKWorld forum!

Just a few suggestions to make your time here a fun and informative experience...

Please update your location/vehicle (model and year) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.

The "Search" feature at the top right of the page is for searching the forum. Many questions have already been asked and answered by our knowledgeable members.

If you are having difficulty finding a solution, you can post your question in the appropriate discussion forum. By doing this, you should receive a quicker response, but please be patient as the forum is worldwide and members live in different time zones.

It's easy to obtain the posts by clicking on the New Members Introduce Yourself Here section and just welcome the new members (like we welcomed you).

To post a picture, either start a new thread or reply to one, type what you want to say and click on the 'paper clip' just above, this will open a window to your left, click on 'browse', go to your pictures, and double click on the one you want to post, click on 'upload' and then 'submit' your post.

If you like a comment or want to thank another member for their post, there's a 'like' button to the right and just below is the 'thanks' button.

As a new member you can use the New Posts link at the top of the info bar. It's a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last.

When you are ready to leave the forum just click on "Quick Links" and click 'mark forums read', this will clear your screen for when you log on again.

Post your vin in the Vehicle Data Card Request section to get a data card (options on your car) free.

Thank you everybody and yes all I want is to drive with the top down that's why I bought it but I can't haha. I will put all my time and effort in till it works. Then I plan on doing some upgrades and can't find parts for the life of me so I will be posting on here to see if people know where to get them. I will also post pics as the work goes on to see the progress. I want to upgrade performance a lot now that it's brought back to life

Hi and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

Please update your vehicle model to include year (year?: 2000) in your profile if you haven’t already done so, as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
Follow this to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Although I don't really know anything about troubleshooting roof issues, the following links might be useful to you:

I hope you resolve the issue quickly! :)

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

First please update your vehicle (year?: 1996-2016) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Thank you
