I have recently sold our SLK350 which we bought new in 2005 after 14 years of very reliable and thoroughly enjoyable service from it. So much so that I have now bought an ex demonstrator SLC 300 from our local MB dealership. I like everything about the car except for the uninspiring exhaust droning noise especially at low revs. To overcome this dilemma I keep the car in Sport mode but even in this mode the exhaust noise takes away some of the enjoyment of driving the car. The SLK350 had a wonderful tuneful V6 exhaust note which was a pleasure to listen to but so different on the SLC. I accept that a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine will produce a different exhaust note, just like on the current Porsche Boxster, and I was aware of the problem when agreeing to buy the car but is there anything which can be done to lessen the droning effect? I know that on some other Mercedes and Porsche cars with sport exhausts they have a switch which can turn off the racket if need be. Or is there any software adjustment which can overcome the problem? Various motoring journalists have also commented on this problem. I would appreciate any advice.
