Hi folks, and thanks very much for the welcome message.
My SLK is a 2008 200 Kompressor, which I bought about a year and a half ago, and was one of those rare finds, bought unseen on Ebay, but bodywork unmarked, and everything works - well, the aircon needs regassing, but a ten year old car, not unexpected. I bought it for a very good price anyway so have been very happy with it.

I'm retired now - have always been a bit of a petrol head, and used to rebuild engines and gearboxes in the late sixties, and on and off ever since.

Anyway, the auto gearbox on the SLK , which has up till now worked very smoothly, has out of the blue stuck in third or second gear, and plugging in diagnostic tool says speed sensor faulty. Having researched this , I'm now debating whether to take it to a repairer, or look into it myself. The problem I have always found with car repairers, is finding one who i can trust to do a good job. When you do things yourself , you have a vested interest in doing it well as it can be done , not as quickly as possible .
Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings , and look forward to being a member of this forum.

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the community.

It may be a bit far from you, but Darren Newton (https://www.facebook.com/newtonsmercspecialist) has told me his specialty is MB auto boxes.
He's done other work for me, including a new torque converter and auto fluid changes, and he's done a good job.

If you are using an independent garage make sure they can do Merc AND read Merc codes.
Generic readers say speed sensor. Specialist say which one.

Thanks for taking the trouble to send that Mike. Yes, quite a long way from here, but will keep it in mind. Always good to have a recommendation. Ian
