Hello all and thank you for the warm welcome to slkworld.com. This is my first post and would like to introduce myself, my name is Bill and im currently from the Maryland area but that's about to change to Florida. I am mechanically inclined and have been working on my own cars sense I was old enough to see under the hood. I purchased my 1998 SLK 230 (R170) about 3 months ago when I saw it online at a low end used car dealer that is about an hour and a half away from here, but I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it as im sure many here have been through before. So, let me summarize what I have been through thus far with this particular car, alot of things I have already fixed using the help from everyones post in this forum, all of you deserve my reciprocation which is why i've finally joined. ok.. problems... battery, pse getting wet, convertible top cylinders leaking, shifter linkage rattling, standard radio connected to bose amplifer, changing of oil, agressive shifting upon warm up of engine, slight dead miss at idle, rear drains around truck lid and gas cap clogged, passenger side window stop bracket laying in bottom of the door, passenger door window must be part way down to close the door, oil change, fuel filter change, cabin air filter change... I know it sounds like alot but it really isnt, some slight neglect by the previous owner but nothing major... CAR HAD 77K MILES ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IF FOR $5,700 CASH and in maryland cars require a tough inspection before you can register them, replaced a turn signal bulb and it went right through. now ive fixed most of that stuff except for the convertible top cylinders, the dead miss at idle, and the passenger window because im gonna wait till spring to pull the door panel back off, I just replaced the shift linkage bushing today (shifter end) and WOW what a difference, there wasnt even one there when I bought it, the drains I cleared out with water, a long piece of tubing from home depot and an air compressor, worked perfectly but messy as hell. Everything I have done thus far and will continue to do for this car is worth it in my mind. I will post pictures as soon as I get the chance to do so, and thank you all for you INVALUABLE advice and tips
