Hi All,
Just recently bought our 2006 SLK 200 Kompressor in Black, and loving it!
Having spent a little bit extra to give her some proper TLC recently, repaired front bumper, full bodywork MOP & polish, refurbished wheels, painted brake callipers and a couple of other minor bits I was now looking to make some upgrades.
I've attached new number plates to match the new shiny bodywork but on fitting the new LED rear number plate bulbs find that they aren't working as they should, anyone had similar issues, could just be really cheap LED bulbs?
Very interested in the coding threads, seems like with the correct programming there are loads of extras that can be 'unlocked'.

Thank you for having me, or us.
SgtH

Welcome from inverness, Scotland!

Congrats on the new car! Sounds like you've made a good start doing bits and pieces to it.

I've recently installed an LED interior lighting kit (this one) but didn't think about the number plate bulbs until I was installing the kit, so I'll need to look at getting some of those myself. Your problems might be caused by the LEDs not having resistors built in - the LEDs draw such low power that the car may think the bulb is blown, and can give warning of a blown bulb on the dash. To avoid this you can install a resistor (though I'm not sure which spec, but I'm sure you could find info on the search) or make sure that when you buy them they state "CAN BUS error free" or something similar.

I also had to consider this when upgrading my indicator bulbs to LEDs, which might be something else you want to do. I ended up going for these CREE bulbs as I had seen CREEs recommended on here, with a video showing the improvement posted by 55russamg (again if you are interested you should be able to find it easily using the search function). They're not exactly cheap but do make the indicators flash a lot sharper and look more modern.
