Hi:

I have a 1999 SLK230 Kompressor. Found it 2 years ago in Chicago using Cars.com. Only had 25,000 CarFax certified original miles on it and not a single spot of rust. Thought it was a great deal. Now I am learning the truth of the saying "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes". Currently has just over 40,000 miles and have spent nearly $2000 on repairs in the 2 years I have owned it. Love it when it runs but thought Mercedes had a reputation for reliability. Is my experience typical?

Welcome! I bought my 1999 for $1800 almost three years ago and it runs like a champ. I have 158k miles now and I need a new PSE pump. Outside of that, she doesn't burn any oil and the 5 speed is tight. What have you had to replace/repair on your car?

We have a 2004 R170 and have spent something similar.
Things like tyres, brake pads/discs are to be expected on most second hand cars.


You have to approach it with a 'replaced that so it's good as new' thought.


They certainly make you smile when all is well. We find that is worth the cost.


You could always use the info on this forum to do many jobs yourself and save some money.
One thing that you must do is:-

Keeps water out and helps the roof mechanism stay sweet.
